Default leather for making a strop..

Trying to find a good thick peice of hard leather. About 4x10 inches would be nice. I don't want treated or softened in any way. It's for making a strop to sharpen knives. I tried to find some through halffords on line and ended up with a thin soft flimsy thing. Anyone know where I could get some on line?

Glue them to a wooden paddle and done. Load the leather with a bit of jewellers rouge to hasten the process. Or you could just use a newspaper laid out on a table top, works just as well.

Growing up in the fifties my mother had a leather strop they used for sharpening razors. When she put us over her knee and gave us a few wallops with that strop it sure hurt. Learned to behave.

Default Tandy

Tandy has them on wood, and the leather as well.

I've been using the Lee Valley strop for about 10 years now. I love it. Just got a nice hunting knife made of D2 steel - interested to find out if it will do much on that stuff. Wow is it hard!
