Default sharpening auger blades

so was out in the freezing cold saturday and the auger wasnt cutting well...dirty ice
suffered thru getting 25-30 holes drilled on the desired spot.
figured what the poop gonna try touch them up...holes were dug and if all went south i needed new blades anyway.
took one of those fine flat files on the red plastic handle i use to sharpen hooks....wasnt pretty or precise, gloves on and blades left on auger.
made a few passes on the top side of the blade only 1 way(down and away).....never touched the bottom side.
fired it back up...prepared for the bit to squirrel out and drill my boot
Screamed thru the ice like a hot knife thru butter

Good job. I hit bottom early this year for the first time ever. On the lake I straightend the bent teeth back with pliers. Worked well. Got home and with a basic file, honed of the spurs by hand. Blades by no means look like new but now, as you said, like butter.

I've had the same jiffy model 30 since about 1982 and have always sharpened my blades that way.Usually take them off and put in a vise, long single cut file and keep it flat across teeth.I think I have only replaced blades 2 or 3 times in all these years and use it every year lots

Chubb aren't you running a strike master. little different blades to touch up compared to the toothy straight jiffy blades.

I also have an 8" Jiffy, I love those serrated teeth. I keep a 8" file in the box with my powerhead. As long as you keep the blade cutting face at 15* and an overall angle of 45* from the bottom auger flight, it cuts like it's going through butter.

I'll take it if it's not already spoken for. Almost thick enough for an extension.
