What Species Made This Track?
I stumbled across these tracks today in deep fluffy snow. What species?

I have seen those tracks before and always assumed it was a long tail weasel but I sure could be wrong.

I just googled long tailed weasel tracks in snow and came up with that exact track.

I believe it's a small mink,as a rule of thumb a weasels track has one foot slightly ahead of the other,a mink is usually side by side and wider

I have seen tracks like that in most of the old farm yards i have been to. I guessed weasel as well, looks like a healthy size!

Kinda neat. 1 lazy jump 1 big jump 1 lazy jump 1 big jump. I believe the ones I’ve always seen were fairly symmetrical in jumps.

A long tailed weasel never even occurred to me. I don't think that they are very common around here and I always thought that they were more of a southern Alberta critter. We have lots of short tails but I never saw them leave a track like this, it's always four paw prints together as they bound. If that's the body print between the front and back legs it must be a nice size.

It must have been a female because I think that I found the male's tracks.

In -15 weather the tracks would be a lot smaller than that.
