What was your first bow?

With all the threads asking what to get for a first bow i thought guys could share what there first bow was. Mine was a used High country sniper. At 16 years old I thought it was the best thing going. I managed to kill my first archery elk and bear with it so I guess it worked just as well as any new bow I have ever had. What was your first bow?

Mine was a martin phantom bought used from Lane archery.

Mine was an old browning. Not sure of the model, but it was pre-mirage as I recall. It had the actual metal cable cables, and the teardrop ends to change the string. I killed my first archery moose and whitetail with it and missed a couple of elk. Kinda funny to think back to the stuff we started with! Scary how far the equipment has progressed!

Martin fibreglass recurve. Age 5. Then a Jennings micro carbon extreme when I was 8 for my first compound.

Mine was a hand me down HCA Supreme, 70-80 pound bow. That was my Dad's he shoots left handed too. Shot my first couple of archery moose and a mule deer with it.

Mine was a Bear Bruin 60#er that I saved my pennies for and bought from a SMALL local sporting goods store when I was about 13. In a year or two I upgraded to a 80# Clearwater Archery Power Mag. A few years later I had Dave Power's (Clearwater Owner as well as multiple IBO Champ then) special build me a 130# Power Mag. OH.....to be YOUNG, STRONG, and STUPID again. LOL!!!! Luckily I had a short draw length back then as the 2419's with a 130 grain muzzy on the end JUST were stiff enough. LOL!!!

...a Golden Eagle...cant remember the model. 60 lbs I think. Paired up with some gucci Easton aluminum 2117's..then got cocky and went 2018's maybe, ha ha, cant recall. Aluminum arrow days were a hoot. I must say, i LOVE the carbon now...they are either straight or broken in half, no in between to decide on a slight dent/bend.

VERY shiny black limbs with gold lettering. Pretty hot at the time. I pimped it up with velcro camo limb covers

circa 1985 "ish"

Sounds like mine, bought in 1985 as well, which I still have. It was one of the first compound bows out with the recurve limbs, very smooth draw. Mine is 70 lb with 31-33" draw. Shot 2317 arrows, guy that used to own The Edmonton Archery Range called them fence posts..........LOL

It counts the same as your first hair bow, bow tie or David "Bowie" cd in relation to this topic.
On another note did anyone have a Jennings buck master? That was my first solo cam and a really cool bow at the time.

Killed a ton of rabbits and chickens and a few deer with it tho,and my 1st archery buck,152 P&Y 6x6.....it's still my best archery buck,shoulda just quit right then,lol.

I believe mine was a Canadian made compound bow back in the 80's. 70lbs draw. Still was very fast. There was no 75% let off...more like 10% let off. lol

My first bow I bought at the old hardware store in the Whitecourt Mall in 1994. Was a Bear Whitetail II package. Cost around $350 then. Came with quiver, finger tab, arm guard and 3 arrows. Bought a trigger release and a bunch of arrows at the bow store in Barrhead soon after. Shot my very first elk with it that fall south of Whitecourt in DTLW050001using 125 grain Thunderhead broad heads.

There was a fellow in Calgary in the 1980's that owned Baron Archery. He made compound bows in his garage.

My first one was through him; Spirit II, 70 lbs....Boy have the bows ever improved since then......

Fiber glass recurve when I was a kid, think it was 30#. Bought a bear in the earlier 90's, can't remember but assume it could have been a whitetail II. Didn't know anything about archery back then. Bought a used prairie fire after that, then Mathews mq32, 63# Sorensen longbow, 45# Martin savannah, Mathews fx, 53# four points longbow, mathews drenalin. All I shoot now is my four points longbow.

My first trad. bow was a 64'' custom long bow by Quarter moon as well.

Mine was a Horton Magnum crossbow out of England back in the late 70's....bought it from a fella in Chippewa Ontario....all aluminum body with a black plastic coating. 125lb. recurve with a Bushnell .22 scope on it.

Hoyt Vectrix XL, is the first that I owned. First year hunting borrowed my dad's old Browning, unsure of model however know it was a late 80's/early 90's model

Getting a good laugh especially at the fact that I must be getting old since I can remember the names and can picture some of these bows. Mine was a Jennings Black Lightning that I got for Christmas.

Jennings buckmaster it was back in 1996. I though it looked cool back then with the all camo and split limbs. Didn't know nothing about bows. Some guy's I knew opened an archery store and were bragging about the performances of them and at that time it was an ex exclusive bow zone here. So I had some cash to spend and went in and got myself a starting kit. Payed over 700 buck's at the time. Went out and joined at the indoor shooting range. The second nite shooting after a couple of arrows, I let one of and the damn bow fall apart right in my hands. Bring it back to the store get it fixed and back to the indoor club. Two of these store owners were pot guy's so this store was only a front . They always had the top and best equipment. Then they got into the Matthew's bow line . A lot of dope guys are upgrading to these with no problem buying them. So after a few issue's with the not so cool buckmaster(to me) I wanted to follow these guys with the good bows and finally upgraded to a Matthew's Z-MAX 60/70 lbs bow. The big boss at the store let me have it on a cash down and rest on credit . In October 1998. Finally finished paying it off in October 1999 for a total of 865.000$ and stii have to this day. I just need a NSW bow string for it. I was lucky to get 450.00$ for that jennings.
