Default Winchester 101 problems

I have posted this before and have never had the problem fixed. Last nite was the last straw. My Winchester 101 made in the 70's will intermittently will not fire the lower barrel. It clicks but does not dent the primer. I need a gunsmith to work on it as I like the shotgun and shoot it reasonably well.
Thank you.

Sounds like a broken/cracked firing pin.

If you want one in Edmonton try Ron Henrickson. Has a shop in the west end. Long time well trained, great with all things metal work related. Karl at K and S is very good by they are so busy re-barreling stuff I don't know that he is doing any general gunsmithing.

Default you would be surprized

how much gunk can get into an old shotgun. You wouldnt think the tiny firing pin hole on the face or the trigger assembly hole would allow much dirt and debris but it does. I have had to take apart a few older Berettas from the 60's and 70's by removing the stock and actually soaking the whole receiver once detached in solvent. old oil gels attracting powder and even bits of plastic which I have to assume are the tiny pieces that detach from the hull when the crimp opens. Every action I have taken apart is built like a sherman tank but put a bunch of gunk in the action so the firing pin cannot move freely and you have a soft hit.

I would suggest if you can not see the rounded end of the firing pin in the firing pin tunnel it is broken .
