Muzzle Brakes
Curious if anyone has experience with muzzle brakes on rifles.
I was watching a long range video the other day on it and realized mine isn't too great.
I have a Savage Model 10 FCP-K
Heavy barrel. Fluted. And has a factory brake on it.
Chambered in 308 Win.
Watching the long range video setup, he says its meant to keep your rifle horizontal. Well I've been paying attention to mine and my rifle barrel jumps up.
Curious if there are better options here in Canada to buy out there to fix this issue?
Thanks!

I have a Savage scout .308 Win rifle that I'm no longer interested in keeping. The stock muzzle break was horrible, so I replaced it with a Dlask linear compensater that does the trick.

Check out Insite arms in lloydminster
They manufacture their own muzzle brake that they call the heathen
Works great
Deflects a lot of the noise and blast away from the shooter

Dlask makes them for .30 Cal.?I thought their linear compensator's were for 10/22's only.Since they vent gases forward, not sure if that would reduce recoil for the shooter but it would direct it away from anyone sitting on the benches on either side.
Nothing better than shooting next to a Gill/Side port type braked .338.

Another vote for the Heathen brake from Insite Arms, I've got one on my Tikka Tactical in .308. The backing nut design means that you can install it without tools or spacers, you support a Canadian company and best of all ... it works great!

I have a Gentry brake on my 300 Weatherby, recoils strait back, very mild.
My other rifles including a 7mm and 270 Win don't warrant one as the recoil is manageable for me.

I’ve got a 338 Imperial Mag (similar to a RUM), and it came with a muzzle brake on it. In a Sako synthetic stock. Not sure what kind of a brake it is, but it had fairly serious muzzle jump too. Took the brake off and it was worse. I took the stock off, and put some weight in the forend and some more in the butt. Mixed BB shot in epoxy and poured it in. No more muzzle jump and it shoots well under MOA now with no brake on it. And the recoil is easy too. Downside is it now weighs over 12 lbs. Relegated to bench rest only. Realistically is way more gun than was necessary for any N American critters anyway. But it really is a joy to shoot now.

The Heathen looks like pretty much the same thing I have on my 308 now.
Been looking at the APA American Precision Arms Brakes. The Little Bast**d Gen 3.
Looks like it has top ports you can tune to adjust where your reticle returns to after the shot.
Anyone have one of those?

I have a rifle on the way , that has a brake with holes on top that can be left open, or closed with set screws. I may sell the brake to recover some cash, as I will never use it. The silly picatinney rail on the fore end , will be coming off as well.

I've found the ATRS brake I have on my 7MMSTW keeps the rifle down and just pushes back. It is the loudest brake I have heard go off. Canadian manufacturer but you have to have them do the install.

I use an MDT Brake on my 300 PRC and it works very very well. It greatly reduces recoil and it tames muzzle jump as well.
