Default 30mm scope ring question

I've always used 1" scope tubes but just recently pick up a 30mm tube with a 50mm objective scope. I'm mounting it on my Remington 700 with a factory magnum contour barrel. Do I need medium rings or high? Will the 30mm tube make the scope sit higher? Should clarify I will be running Talley lightweights.

Thanks

The medium should work fine on a sporter contour barrel with up to 50mm objective size.

The rule of thumb is typically a scope should be mounted as low as possible, without any portion of the scope touching the barrel, or any portion of the rifle.

Rem 700's bolt configuration doesn't always allow that though. I have all of mine reworked.

I believe medium will work...and I also think I have a set of brand new Talley 1 piece 30mm rings for a 700 that have been sitting on my shelf for years.....if you're interested I can go digging.

Edit: went digging. They are for a Winchester 70....oh well.
