Default Powder Recommendations for .300WinMag

I've just added a .300WM to my safe. I have aspirations of working up a load for Barnes 168gr TTSX. T3x Lite, 24inch barrel. I'm looking for recommendations on a fairly temperature stable powder that is available in Edmonton. I've heard positive stuff about RL22, experiences? Others I should consider?

Rl26 and h4831sc if you don’t care about temp stability ie shoot game less than 500m than the less temp stable powders like vvn560 work well.

I don't get too concerned with the temperature stability of a powder, I have used powders that weren't considered stable for over 45 years, and with over 100 head of big game harvested, they haven't cost me an animal yet. I have used a lot of R-22 and imr7828 n that time, with great results.

You can never go wrong with the old standbys that have been used for years, H4831 or IMR 4350 they just plain work

Read the thread on temp stable powders. After you do my bet is you will use one of the Hodgdon Extreme line of powders like H4831 or H4350. Two very long time excellent powder choices for the 300 WM.

For me, on hunting conditions from minus 20 to 10 deg C powder temperature sensitivity is of little concern.

Most powder temperature sensitivity issues stem from shooting over max loads in very high temperatures. Industry grabbed on to this a turned it into a way to sell more powder...

Any slow burn powder is good for the 300 mag. 4350, 4831, rl 19, rl 22

I think there is value in having a lot of powder that works well in other cartridges you may also have.
Example the slow powder that works in a 30/06 will probably serve well in your magnum.
I'm not sure its worth the trouble investing in a slightly slower powder just for your magnum.
I think primer, bullet and loading procedure are bigger issues. Im betting any slow powder that fills most of your case will do.
It just seems hard to source powder now a days. You work up loads for imr and then next year you go to buy more and then everybody is selling weird foreign powder from over seas or then the next year its hodgens or something.
If you can get 20 lbs of something all from the same batch that works in a few that you use then I'm thinking that might be a good thing.

I use H4350 for both of my magnums. No complaints at all, both are SAUM’s, 300 and 7mm. Find the powder fairly easy.
