Default Great day building teaching aids

As some of you may know I received my instructor accreditation for the CFSC and CRFSC in early March. I helped out with teaching a course right before the COVID shutdown occurred.
Word has come down that soon we will be able to begin instructing the courses again. Smaller classes, spaced out, lots of hand washing etc etc.

With making things better for the students, and polishing up on a few areas myself and the other two instructors I teach with(was a Proctor for almost 2 years)
I set off making some display boards, to help get around passing items around the class room.

Frankly the course has holes a Mack truck could drive through.

Myself and the other instructors I work with do our best to fill some of those gaps.

The whole ammunition section of the manual is filled with errors, and fails to discuss a lot of topics even beginners should at least be exposed to.

Excellent stuff!
What area do you teach the course in?
Always good to know someone is putting in the extra effort to refine things.

The biggest problem with the testing system, is that most people only take the course , because they have to, in order to get their PAL. Most of them don't really care about learning any more than they have to , in order to pass the test.

Everything is like that.

Even tradesmen, how many guys taking their electrical apprenticeship cared to retain even 20% of the stuff they were taught while in their technical training?

How about driver training?

At least apprenticeships are four years, and drivers Ed lasts for months, so they can't help but absorb some material.

But eliminating the challenges was a good thing, it got rid of the people that told everyone the answers, then let them write until they passed. The guy that used to go around doing challenges inhis motor home, didn't even take payment until the person passed, so of course they were going to pass.

There is still a bunch of side stepping going on, I’ve heard tell about a bunch of applicants getting rejected because their testing wasn’t done properly, but that’s a discussion for a different thread. I won’t go into POL’s becoming PAL’s automatically either.

FWIW: it took nearly 3 years for me to get my instructor qualification, and that was just this go around. My first attempt to get into the gig fell on deaf ears.

I sure as heck am not going to begin “dog-housing” or “curbing” the exams.

You’re right...and it’s in everything.
Something a friend of mine, a doctor said really made me think.
70% is a pass in medicine. In every class there are those that just squeak through.
Glad my doc graduated highest in his class (he’s a world renowned surgeon at the Mazankowski 😀

Yup, even the guy who got 70.2% on everything gets to be called doctor when he graduates.

Great teaching aids for sure!!! Nice work!! Those are the type of aids that really help me learn.

I don't think the 70% doctors push themselves to become heart surgeons. Well I hope not. From my experience at the Mazankowski they ALL scored 100%.
