Default temperature and POI change

Does anyone know if temperature change can have a significant effect on POI? If it can affect pressures and velocity, I would guess so. When my son and I hunted in Texas in August (38-42C), both our rifles needed to be re-zeroed when we got there. His rifle is bedded and needed 3-4 inches adjustment both down and left. I chalked it up to the wood shifting? My rifle also needed significant adjustment. Also a wood stock.
Thoughts?

Yes temp and humidity will affect wood stocks
It can also affect your load
I don’t even both trying to do load development with anything that isn’t temp stable.

I don’t know how necessary it is in a rifle delegated to 400 yds or less, but I do the same. RL 16 and 26 are excellent as well.
