Default Best Stores for Wool Clothing

Just curious what some of you wool wearing fellas have to say about which stores have the best selections of wool clothing in or around Edmonton?

for merino base layers, MEC is the best and cheapest.

Wholesale Sports carries a few higher end brands. If they are still open ...

As for merino,
I like Icebreaker. Campers village, 911 supply, Atmosphere too.
It ain't cheap but it lasts.

Also have some first lite and Kuiu that's really good too.

I found the MEC brand stuff to be low quality.

Cheers.

I also like the Icebreaker line, I don't know if they make any base layers but the three sweaters I have are all very warm and durable.

Hey, google "Fred Asbell wool".

He has some pretty nice looking jackets. He uses traditional plaid patterns, instead of the "name brand camo stuff" so popular today.

PS. x2 on mountain equipment co-op for base layers.

Icebreaker. Look for the high percentage wool materials, as they are starting to mix in other materials with some if their designs for some reason.

Campers Village on the west side carries Woolrich and Icebreaker. MEC has their store brand merino and various types of socks. Wholesale Sports has Icebreaker and a few select pieces from other brands. Cabelas has some Icebreaker and occasionally store branded items. Milarm has a decent selection of Firstlite and maybe something from 5.11.

I prefer Icebreaker for tops, socks and underwear. The Firstlite Obsidian pants are amazing.

Asbel stuff fits a little goofy but it is made from very nice wool. My next one will be size extra and I will turn it over to a seamstress. Milsurp stores and thrift shops.

i bought all my wool at the thrift store. Merino wool for 8.00. Found two of them. Also found a pair of columbia jeans for 20.00 and a massive thick wool sweater for 15.00.

Saved a fortune.

German Surplus wool pants are as good as they get, just a matter of finding who has them in stock at the time you want them. Goodwill and the Army surplus if you have the patience, if not the other locations provided by the others will serve you well.

I ordered some pants and socks from these guys and am happy so far. The service was awesome and the quality seems top notch but got after hunting season so haven't truly tested them. Canadian company with lots of stuff made here as well.

I have a couple pairs, they work great.

If I'm in messy stuff, I pull some old track pants on top of them to keep them nicer longer.

Thumbs down

MEC: With your money, sales revenue, they actively financially support anti hunting groups.

Anyone who enjoys hunting/fishing should stay far away from MEC and do their business elsewhere.

Just the way it is...

I just ordered three merino base layers from camofire.com
They ship to Canada and have 35% off for another 5 hours. I got a 1/4 zip merino long sleeve and a normal long sleeve shirt and merino pants for $100

I just checked this out, and the products look great, pretty much exactly what I've been looking for, I've just never been a huge fan of ordering clothing online... Because I rather try the stuff on before purchasing it... But I may just take a shot in the dark on this one...

Thanks Alder!

I've seen a few Johnson products around Edmonton, I want to say maybe at Campers Village or some other trendy outdoors shop. The colors might not be what you want, but you might be able to try on some clothing for size. For wool I think Johnson and Filsons are pretty much top of the line.

Yep pretty much it for me too. I've boycotted UA as well for their Bowmar treatment.
