Maybe a rem model 7 in 7-08... Just a thought, great little rifle/calibre combination, throw on a Burris or red field scope and you got a very respectable set up for any game animal from moose to mice!

I gather the idea her is to produce a safe competent shooter?
We aren't trying to turn her into a big game hunter are we?
Here is what I'd do, let her pick, get a rifle that she can handle safely and that has very little recoil and noise so she can practice with it. Cheap ammo will encourage this.
I saw .410 in part of the post. I don't think that this is a shotgun for a small child, let her grow up a bit and pick one that fits and that she has a chance to hit something with.
IMO good luck. BTW with my daughter, who was younger, we used a cooey .22 that I sawed part of the stock off so that it would fit, and the shot gun was a 12 ga. with lightly loaded ammo.
She is actually a very good shot now, and a mother with 2 grandkids.

My daughter received her Great Grandma's model 94 30-30 (only highpower grandma ever owned and shot deer with). I wouldn't say there is any bad blood between the two of them. We're planning to swap out the original stock for a Boyd's though, as to not further damage the original.

My kids including my daughter have been shooting a 7mm-08 with no issues at all. No complaints what so ever. I put a bipod on it as well. My daughter weighs about 65 pounds is all and is a skinny rail. She shot her first deer this year and made a good 100 yard shot

My 12 and 14 yr olds will be hunting with my 1957 vintage Winchester 94, deadly accurate with its Williams FPS sights. My older boys killed their first deers with a Jungle Carbine and a 30-06 Savage. Nice thing about the lever beyond light recoil is it is very easy to carry. Young eyes usually do very well with a decent set of irons and no risk of "Scope brow".

Our youngest daughter started with reduced loads on the .243 at 9 years old. We have a Savage Ladyhunter which is a .4 MOA sweet shooter. I just don't care for the plastic retainer clip on the mag. Heard all good things about the Micro Midas too. See Brobee223's stuff on youtube.

If you have not got one as a back up rifle, camp rifle, truck rifle, do all rifle then you truly are missing out

for a deer rifle a decent choice might be a 6.5 Grendel in a Howa mini action, which is a sweet little deer rifle for a beginner. ammo might be a little hard to find, it isn't a popular round, but it might be exactly what your daughter is looking for.

She is not scared of the guns, but I do not want anything that causes here to be scared. This will then reck my plan of having a great hunting partner.
She has also expressed interest in a 20 gauge with light loads for grouse this fall. Going to be a fun and expensive shopping trip.

Where are you at?? If you're close enough I have access to a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 that she could try if you brought some hunting ammo.

My Daughter is 12 this year and will be using a Savage 10 Scout in 7.62x39 for deer. I think its perfect for her, especially after shortening the stock about an inch, although she is tall and pushing 100 lbs.
It shoots surplus ammo with minute of deer accuracy for cheap practice and the corrosive ammo is instilling good maintenance practices!
The Savage has a .308 bore so we can hand load any .308 diameter bullet. Load development has just started with some 150 gr bulk bullets to see how they fly. CZ rifles have .310 bores.
The 7.62x39 will do anything the 30-30 will do and has the added advantage to cheap practice ammo.

I would try and get something with a little bit longer barrel if going with .243. Ideally I would go with .260, 7mm08 or .308 and a 22" barrel with reduced hand loads to start.
The .243 Win has a fair amount of muzzle blast from a 20" barrel. The recoil is tameable, but a flinch from the muzzle blast is a posibility. I had a 20" barreled .243 Win and it had more muzzle blast than my .300.
I use a 7mm08 as a my do everything rifle. It is a very capable round.

I say get her a .308 BUT use Managed-Recoil ammo, that way as she grows you haven't got to buy her a new , more powerful rifle, just different ammo. and the .308 managed recoil are supposed to be just as good as full load out to 200 yards for killing power.
that's my 2 cents.
p.s. i suggest a youth model like a tc venture youth 308, then as she grows you can use a slip on recoil pad and cheek risers much cheaper than new rifle.

I bought an old Coey in 308 from a fellow AO member, cut 1.5 cm off the stock, put a Cabellas Meopta 3x9-44 On it. My daughter shoots the reduced recoil or managed recoil factory loads and lives it. But she is 15 and I'm guessing around 100 lbs. We will go for qhitetail tgis fall. Plan is to go moose hunting in a couple years. She can use same rifle with hot loads.

When my daughter was 12, she shot my Ruger M77 in 7x57 and my M96 in 6.5x55. Her only complain was that they are heavy, especially the M96. She took a immediate like to my SMLE scout rifle, and so far that's her fav.

I bought my one boy a Kimber Montana in a 7mm-08 when he was 12 yrs. old and shoots it no problem. My second son when he turned 12 I bought him a Kimber Montana in a .243 and he is shooting with no problems. My older boy is now 17 yrs. old and he is going to move into a .308 Kimber Mountain Ascent.

I would choose a caliber based on the 308: 243,260, 7-08. And would probably lean towards the243.
Probably more important is the physical size of the rifle . Imagine trying to shoot a rifle that is 2 inches, length of pull too long, and in a varmint weight . That's basically what smaller stature people have to do .Not pleasant
Glad to see a young person interested in shooting sports , good luck.

One thing many are not discussing is the finish of the gun. A gun in a natural wood or laminated stock will provide some relief versus a super light synthetic stock. The difference is mind numbing when comparing each other and the variation on recoil. Calibre , for me it would be .260 R.E.M. But I'm biased. For others the 7mm-08. Unless have you have Bentley Cobens ol' Bertha .243, it's a gun that too many grow out of too fast. Just my two cents

Just picked up a tikka 7mm 08 compact for my little guy. 100lbs. 10 years old......maybe not so little. Lol.
Low recoil ammo. No issues so far. Lots of ammo options once he gets bigger and older.

We ended up getting her a Browning Micro Midas X-Bolt in wood and .243. Put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9 on it and she loves it. Shooting the Hornady reduced loads. She is nailing 2" groups at 200 yards off my Bog tripod and her chair. This will be the setup we will use this fall. Thanks for all the input.
