I think that's how it is spelled, they used to sell it. Don't buy the kind that has been treated with oil, that is for the city to thaw hydrants.

Don't you want oiled coal to keep it from clumping, and making less dust?
That's my understanding, but just what I've heard.
Curious to hear the other side of that debate.

This expertise will soon be gone. I drove past Sherness to-day huge pile of coal and the fire is out.

The oiled coal is to keep it burning without "stoking" poking it a poker, while it is thawing pipes in a Calgary winter. It is very hard to control coal dust, Stelco in Hamilton was burning anthracite (metallurgical coal that will melt iron to make steel) and it is very hard buts still dusty when dumped. In order to make the neighbours happy they built a shed to cover the tipple cars (rail cars that you turn upside down to empty) when they were emptying a ship load of coal.

Coal dust is extremely explosive, they found one of the wheels from the rail car 5 miles away on Hamilton mountain, no one has seen the shed.

So no it is not to control dust but you will only get bituminous (soft coal) here in Alberta not as hot by a long shot but very cheap.

If you are industrious you can still dig your own out of the banks near Drumheller.

When I was a boy my grandfather took me to the coal monger's yard and he had 3 different piles of (hard coal) Sydney, Acadia, and Moose River, all with different heating qualities and clinkers! Grand dad knew which one he wanted (no clinkers).

Are you sure your tent stove is compatible with coal?

Built a stove. It has a heavy grate over sand so bottom wont burn out. Also was only gokng to add a few chunks of coal to wood fire to help last through night.

Dodds coal mine operating outside of Ryley AB. However if you're only needing a pail full it's a long drive. Maybe you could just buy a pail from someone who burns coal.

There's an outfit down in Calgary called "Anthratech Western." They should have what you need.

The Saskatoon farm burns (burned?) it, I got a couple garbage cans from them. It was about three years ago though, I'm not sure how Knutley has affected his business.

Default Fulton's Home Hardware in Airdrie

You can still buy it in Airdrie at the Home Hardware phone (403) 948-5535. It comes in 70 lb bags and it is $89.99/bag. I believe they have 23 in stock.

If you were in the red deer area I'd have a connection. Check the close rural areas. I would think the big city metropolis doesn't know coal is cheap to burn 😁

Thermal coal currently runs about $120/ton for the premium stuff. Making some good dollars there.

I could probably get some, but the quantity would be 5,000 tons minimum.
