Default Bent 330 Spring

I have a bent spring on a 330 and I'm wondering if/how I can straighten it.

I can't get a picture to upload.

Hey Dave, I'm thinking that it is the cross bar that is bent, not the spring.
If this is the case, just straighten it as you would a clothes hangar, etc. I have had to do this many times and it may require you to do this again. If the 330 is an older one. Dry firing them with a stick doesn't do them much good either..lol..

No, this is one side of a spring, Doug. Don’t ask me how it happened because I have no idea.

I know what you’re saying about the bars getting bent from beaver pushing branches in them and dry firing them with a stick. I’m sure that I have a few small bends in some bars too but nothing drastic that needs repair. I could put the spring in a vice and bend it back into shape but I was wondering if I ought to heat the bend or just bend it back into shape without heating it. I’m thinking that the metal must be hardened steel or something like that.

OK, gotcha....no pun intended
You are prob. best in doing, as you said and putting it in a vice and levering it to where it looks best or better. I'd certainly stay away from heat. Can't say that I have seen what you describe. I know what you mean about putting up pics but that is just what you and I have to contend with .....lol

Dave, an old rule is, if it was cold when it bent it should be cold when straightened. Heat will change the qualities of the steel such as losing some of the spring.

Have had this happen before. I took it to a friend with a press and bent it back to original shape.

Thank you all for the advice.

I'll try the press at the farm first.
