I have a vx3 I love it, its great for light gathering. The zeiss is a little brighter, but the vx3 was built for heavy recoil and the warranty is awesome.

I have found Zeiss scopes to be just as durable, and the Conquest has a lifetime warranty just like Leupold.

Zeiss are beautiful I just dont know anything about how to get warranty work done on them, who to send too I never really checked it out.All Ive ever owned was leupys ,and only paid for one of them I always traded antlers to americans when they came up hunting but last year I just couldnt wait till nov.11 for buddy to arrive so I bought vx3 to throw on new cz. I thought you were buying new magnum elk, what are you going with?

looking towards the vx-3l 4.5-15x50, and just to let the other guys talking about ziess vs. leupold, the vx3 and the vx3l are different scopes, ziess is euro and usually has better glass, both have a lifetime warranty but leupold has a warranty center in alberta, main differences between the two. im sure that there are a few threads debating the merits of both that could be found using the search function

depends on the rifle
I have the older version which was called the VXL (2008) and although the cutout was designed to get right down and allow you to mount it close the the barrel the bolt throw on my BRNO was too high to accomadate that and I didn't particularly like it mounted high above the bore. Took it off the BRNO and put it on an Xbolt with the 60 degree bolt throw and now it is almost snug to the barrel and I like it.
I have seen a few high bolts mess up the intent of the low mount design.
They were argon krypton filled instead of a nitrogen purge prior to that feature being put into the general VX3 line.

I have a Kahles CT 3-9X42 waiting to be installed on my new Cooper 7mmstw when it arrives. I find the Kahles comparable to Swarovski, but I found a better deal on the Kahles.

That's what I just put on my new .300 Win Mag, I love the long (almost 4") eye relief on the Kahles, and the glass is awesome. Might save me from a scope kiss.....
Sorry for the derail. I have a VX3 3.5-10 x 40 on my 7mm-08, and just ordered a VX3 4.5-14 x40 for my .22-250. NOt sure what the difference is with the 'L' designation? but sure like the VX3, I don't know if the Zeiss glass is better, I don't personally think so, but when I physically handled the two side by side, the leupold just seems better built. The caps on the Zeiss just bug me, they seem cheap compared to the leupold for the money. I'm just picky that way.

the vx3l is the model that has the half round notch cut out of the bottom of the objective, allowing it to be mounted something like 30% lower than a standard 50mm objective scope, what i was wondering is how people like the 3l

That is a new name in 2010 so prior to that they were just VXL which is what I described above. I like it now that I have rifle with 60 degree bolt throw but when it was mounted high on the BRNO I might as well have had a VX3 without the notch.
