Default auto shotgun

I got an old browning automatic (belgian) from my grampa. He claims he hasn't shot it in a long long time and never shot it much at all. It looks really good so I believe him.
I went out and tested it the other day on some skeets and it wouldn't eject the shells and chamber a new one. Could this be because the target loads are not hot enough to kick the old shells out, or do I need to fix it?
Any expierence with this kind of problem before. I have only tried the target loads in it so far.

Might just need a good cleaning. Try a bigger shot and see what result you get. If they don't eject, chances are it just needs to be thoroughly cleaned.

A lot of the old Brownings didn't handle light target loads that well but ya, a good cleaning would be the first step.

Default mag model

they also made a 30 inch barrel mag model for 3 inch that won't do well with mild 2 3/4 shells. clean as well as check receiver for load data.

Default old auto 5

1 make sure the gun is not loaded2 place the butt stock on the floor 3 push down on the barrel and with your other hand un screw the cap on the end of the magazine tube 4 then slowly let the barrel come back to battery 5remove the barrel and spring there should be a copper/brass ring over the mag tube take it off and reverse it then put the gun bacck together and it should work fine

Smile Welcome to the "good old days"!

That gun was thought to be the "best" of the auto loaders. Having hunted with lots of guys who had autos, the one you have and rem 1100, I have stuck with my, always shoots, 870!

The modern autos are both better and more expensive.

I'm too old to change and besides there aren't many, it any, autos that can eat the shells I make

IIRC, my Grandpa had an A5 in 20 ga, and it had 2 spring sets, one for light loads, another for hunting loads.

My bet is if you run a heavier hunting load thru that machine, it will work just fine for you.

Default Thanks

Thanks a bunch. I was suspecting that it was a combination of both. The gun needing to be cleaned and the loads being too light. I'll srcrew around with it a bit, but probably just keep it in the safe, till I try my hand at goose hunting that is! Thanks for all the tips.

Default full fixed choke?

Is not suitable for steel shot unless you have that choke opened up by a competent gunsmith. the fixed chokes do not have enough clearance to shoot steel shot they were designed for lead which compresses. Steel shot could take 2-3 inches off the end of your barrel or worse.
