Default Need Humidifier Recommendations

I need to buy a humidifier for the family room 500sqft. what is the best and simplest to clean. Are the cheap ones any worse than expensive?. Should I buy portable or free standing style?
Thanks

If you are handy, I have two brand new units that go on the plenum of your furnace, from when I was building houses. I'd be happy to give you one, if you can plumb it in yourself...?

It depends on the info you're looking for. The Consumer Reports website has Lots of info available to the general public, for free ... including the link I gave you (Humidifier Buying Guide) in post #2 .

But yes, if you want the Full benefits of Consumer Reports, you need to buy a membership ... 'which is worth every penny' ... I know, I've been a Consumer Reports Member for over 15 years now.
