I agree, but if you wash coyotes I believe should be turned to properly dry the "fur side" of the hide.
Maybe best to not wash them if getting tanned?
I say this as I've done some brain tanning and while I leave marten hide out, I've still finished coyotes fur out and then rehydrate with a warm moist cloth within before turning to hide out for tanning.
Probably not a big deal either way for a commercial tanner. Just for home tanning like to have thoroughly washed.
