Beautiful Ram! Congrats!

What was he aged at? 7?

I must say that there have been a pile of great rams taken already this year.

Congrats on a stud ram, the wait was definitely worth it! Nice to hear your brother passed on a smaller ram.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I originally aged the ram at 9.5, the fish and wildlife officer aged him at 8.5, and the biologist in the fish and wildlife office aged him at 7.5

He has amazing growth lengths for a relatively young ram if he is 7.5. There are a couple of rings close together that make it difficult to determine.

Big Congradulations on an amazing Bighorn!
From the picture, it's clearly 8.5 years old jmo
A true stud of a ram with those massive annual

Thanks for the reply and new picture.

I think the annuli are unusually distinct on this ram. My guess is that most just wouldn't expect the ram to be 7 and try to find another ring or two. This certainly was a fast growing ram.

FYI, while F&W will list a ram at 8.5, 7.5.... they round down to the full year when using this information for statistics. Those interested in sheep management and regulation changes need to know this.

Congrats on an absolute bruiser of a ram! I see 7.5. With growth rings like that they aren't stacking up under the hair line.
