Default homemade wooden fishing rod = success!

So my dad loves woodworking and builds all kinds of things. He had an idea to build a fishing rod entirely out of wood - no nails, screws, or metal or plastic at all. Everything is held together by wooden pins. The only thing that is not wood is the fishing line, of course!

Pretty cool idea really, but would it work??

Well he came out to the cabins this weekend to try it out. 15 minutes after dropping a jig down, bam - fish on!!

And he landed a walleye on his homemade wooden fishing rod. Pretty neat

Nicely done, that's a fine hobby to have. Is the rod just one piece of wood or multiple pieces held together like a split bamboo fly rod?

Its multiple pieces all held together by tiny dowels and wooden pins. All moving parts work pretty nice.

And to, cschache - yes the shaft part of the rod is willow, I believe everything else is made out of cedar. There is a tine hole bored in the end of the shaft to allow the line through.

Nice piece of work. Always fun catching fish on something you've made.
