Default To sell or not to sell?

I'm torn. I have a Savage in 30-06. I love the rifle as it was my first ever rifle. Lately I've been thinking that I really want to hunt with a Marlin 336 in 30-30. This is my first year hunting. The problem is that I don't have the funds to just go out and buy a new rifle whenever I want. Should I sell the 30-06 and go buy a 30-30 for my first season? I'm not looking for "I's this caliber good enough" kind of answer, just for opinions or for someone to help me shake this 30-30 infatuation I have.

New Marlins are of dubious quality, take a look on the net for reviews on new Marlins. I'd keep the .30-06. It's a do everything rifle in any landscape in Alberta. Keep it, and when you eventually get some extra dough go get a .30-30. no sense getting a more specialized bush hunting gun unless you have all your bases covered.

I'd keep it, personally. I too would like to get a lever gun, but I'm not selling my baby (Parker Hale .270) to get it. I'll just lust over them until I can afford to have both.

The 30.06 is more flexible than the 30.30.

I would keep it, and hunt with it until you can save enough to buy something else.

Selling the 30-06 to buy a 30-30 is a big step backwards in my opinion. The 30-06 is way more versatile.

I am with the rest of the crew hear. I understand the lure of packing a nice lever gun throught the bush I have Marlin in 32 Win Special that I dont spend near enough time with. But selling the '06 is not a good choice.

Thanks for the input guys! Sometimes I just need a little slap upside the head to get me thinking straight, lol. I'll keep the 30-06. I'll end up with my 30-30 eventually.

I would counsel the same. Keep an eye on this board as well as they do pop up occasionally. I always wanted a lever, and I usually hunt with my 30-06, so when a reasonably priced 1957 Marlin 360RC in 35 Remington in great shape came along I was all over it. Be patient as the marlin (or just about any lever) is a great gun out to 150........ maybe 200 yrds, but you 30-06 should be good to 350, which is a huge advantage depending on where and what you hunt.
