Rabbit hunting
Was thinking of taking my little girl rabbit hunting next week. Was wondering if anyone had any area's where there be some good rabbit hunting. I usually hunt them south of Champion, but its been slow coyotes must be well feed. I'm in Airdrie so not shy to drive to get there.

Any luck finding places?
Hi. Just wondering if you have any luck finding places for rabbits.
I have my kids asking me for rabbit hunting but we do not where to go.
Thanks

I don't mean this in a rude way. But your best bet is picking a spot and heading out for the day on a whim. Worst case, it's a nice day in the bush. Learning an area and knowing how to hunt rabbits will be more productive then someone saying "WMU *** is full of em!". Very few people are going to give up their spots. I've taken rabbits out by waiprous. I've seen em out in 330 and 412. Seen signs in 328 and 316. They are out there. Good luck!

rabbits
My experience is that they have very local communities (think watership down), where the poop, tracks and chews are abundant. Walk the river bottoms in the winter and you will find the spots. The areas I've found are a few hundred meters in dimension. Then focus on the brush piles. Good luck! Our snowshoe hares here are very tasty. The backstraps and legs are very fine fried in butter, but then what isn't?

Too bad you can't hunt them in Airdrie city limits. The rabbits there are everywhere at night!! I am also in Airdrie and have been taking my kids and wife out for the day rabbit hunting. Been to a few spots with lots of fresh tracks, but haven't seen any yet. I'll pm you if I find a good spot.

As a avid rabbit hunter I have found some the best hunting is in and around willows and we're the thorn brush is thick,
Thankfully we are blessed and can hunt rabbit year round basically any were, idk about city's, along the rivers is good, and small streams, fairly easy this yr as it's been warm and iv found alot of them still in there brown coats, so they try to hide but just stand right out against the snow not moving.
Most time I just use my bow or slingshot,
Any ways got off on a ramble.
Thick stands of willows and look in toward the middle, if you don't see the bark eaten off the lower ends there isn't rabbit there generally.
Good rabbit hunting down by elbow falls, There is the turn off for Ings mine, one turn off before that is a tiny parking lot and is not park land can hunt there legally, also good for deer, moose, bear, in that area if you hike way in, can't discharge firearms, bow etc with in one km of road, same for fire and camping, talked to the park wardens last yr.

Best cover is a thick willow swamp adjacent to some upland growth or heavy spruce cover. You can find them in thick spruce but I don't think they taste as good as those feeding on deciduous. Found an old cutblock on a hill that was never replanted(pine), has lots of tall grasses and it contains a large amount of rabbit, soon to be reduced to stew. No worries, I'll leave some for the lynx.

Meaning Sibbald Flats? When people refer to that, is that the area just west of the campground?
