Default Fishing in B.C

I'd like to do some fishing in B.C this year.

Problems is, I don't know most rivers and lakes.

Is there a Barry Mitchell fishing type book for B.C?
Doesn't even have to be very accurate.
Just want to know what I'm fishing and to plan trips.

Winter Rainbows - Kootenay, Arrow, Trout Lakes

Spring steelhead - Fraser Valley

July Chinook - Salish Sea

August Sturgeon - Fraser Valley

September Walleye - Castlegar

October Chum Dogs - Squamish

These are all notable suggestions that are sure to get you fired up for BC fishing.

Are you talking about the backroad mapbook?

I have all the alberta ones and one for northern BC.

Guess I have an excuse to get the rest of them.

I love maps!

Made by Backroads Mapbooks but no not the same.
They actually make fishing Mapbooks for BC and Ontario.
These are much better. Google it you'll see...

Basically a book with a couple hundred lakes and some rivers with detailed maps showing launches and depth charts good directions. Made by fishermen for fishermen.

If you are heading to Vancouver island lots of lakes around Campbell river. Pink salmon fishing in the river estuaries and off the beaches starts July around port Hardy and reaches the qualicum rivers around late July. Goes to September. Coho in September, chum in October. Pink salmon runs are 3-5 times larger on even years on the east coast of Vancouver island.

Can you get these books in Calgary or else where? Or do you have to order them?

They don't have them for the fishing Mapbooks for Alberta, only BC and for a couple of regions in Ontario. I've seen them at chapters in BC and of course online.

I have the IfishBC app and it's pretty good, sort of like a barry mitchell's guide for your phone.

BC has a LOT more lakes so it's sort of hard to find info on some because there are so many other options to fish. I've been in kamloops for almost 2 years and still haven't tried all 200 lakes within an hour of town.

The good old government will charge you $20.00 a DAY to fish in our "classified" waters. As a resident I pay an extra 20 per year. Certainly not fair play in my opinion.

Rainbow Alley, Fort Babine End of August. Bring the fly rod 10-15lbers

Sockeye will be in too, so bring a down rigger and flasher, 40-50' drag a hoochie about 3' behind the flasher. Might have to head further south in Babine Lake, like Topley Landing area in front the mouth of the Fulton River, or further south and the mouth of Pinkett Creek.

Coho will be in the Skeena system then as well with some early steelhead and maybe some late (real late) chinook.

There's a backroad map book for BC like there is for Alberta; however, I would suggest picking up the Forestry maps for the area you'll be in. will be more up to date and probably have better detail.

If youre going up here, or anywhere off of the paved highway for that matter, don't forget to rent a VHF radio as they are all radio controlled logging roads.

If you are in the Comox/Campbell River area end of June to mid July, I could possibly take you out salmon fishing.

Any communication store that sells them will rent them to. Just make sure you tell them a couple days in advance which area you are going and they can program the right channels into it. In Terrace, Coast communications is good, as is Tower Communications in Houston.
