Default Bears

Been baiting a couple of weeks now, and baits are only sightly hit. Been using dog food, pop corn, pancake syrup, juice crystals and beavers. Others having similar experiences?
Did see one nice cinnamon on Friday night- a little too dark! Feeding on a bit of green on a line. Would like to see him again.

Where are you located?? Almost everyone I know of who is baiting are getting their baits hammered. If you have beavers hanging, you'll get results soon enough. Hang in there.

Been hunting in WMU 504. I don't think there are the same amount of bears as zones further North- but there are still ample bears! I guess I just need to be more patient.

Get some products from www.bearscents.com/ works really well.

The Bear Company who I go with every year uses it extensively with great results. They are even mentioned in the testimonials.

Thanks for the advice DJ and Craftyhunter. Checked my baits yesterday and they were hit much harder. Hunted last night and took a nice blonde boar. Smaller than I would have liked- but great hide! Very happy with him. I had only ever seen blacks and cinnamons there before, so a blonde was a nice treat!

Thanks,
WThunter

Congrats!!!!

That is awesome to take a blonde boar, no matter what the size!

What caliber, bullets etc.?

Do you have some pictures of that bad boy???

Congrats again,

Thanks Tyee 43. I harvested him with a .358 Lever Action Savage. .358's are kind of a tradition for bear hunting in my family. Using 200 grain silvertips. This is the first bear I ever shot that even moved after the inital hit. He didn't make it far however.

Even though he is small- I think that I am going to get a rug made. Anyone ever use Clarence Kriaski in Edmonton?

I have never attached photos before in this kind of thing- so I hope they turn out. I think I figured it out.

Great lookin Bear WTHunter. I haven't seen any of Clarences bears but had one done by Alberta taxidermy last year. He did a great job reasonable too I believe it was $80/ foot Nose to tail. Alberta Taxidermy does tons of bears each year. When I picked mine up there was lots still on the rack. I waited 6-8 months for him to finish but was worth it.

WTHunter;

What a gorgeous colour-phase blackie! A blonde rug will look absolutely amazing...well done!!!

What part of the province are you in?

I've seen some cinnamon and chocolate bears, and a few blonde griz, but never a blonde blackie - good for you!

Full mount imo. I'd get him tanned and leave him for as long as it took to save for the full mount...what an awesome color! Congrats,

Blake

Full Mount would be nice- but I decided to go with a rug! Wife doesn't want a mounted bear in the house!

Heybert- he's not very big. Only weighed in at 108 lbs, and was about 5 1/2 feet long. The taxidermist said without doubt he was a two-year old. I am glad I shot him- but is not a trophy due to his size.

Tyee- hunting in WMU 504.

Coyote- my taxidermist is saying 12-14 months- so 8 sounds good.

Heading back out this week with my supplemental tag- going to hold out for a bigger bear this time. Hope to see his great-grandfather!
