A few notes:
-Break the firearm down by removing the stock.(reduces mailing costs)
-Use a cardboard box designed for firearms(go to a gun shoppe and ask)
-Put a cheesy plastic trigger lock that uses an equally cheesy two pronged key, and tape the key to the inside of the box lid. https://byallen.com/allen-company-un...lock-red-18511
-Pad the ever living heck out of the firearm.
-Wrap in 2 layers of brown paper.
Good luck.

A gun is no different than mailing an expensive / breakable automotive part, or a family heirloom...
Make sure there's ample "stuffing", and conceal the product labels if it's in the original factory box.

Answer the questions you have to. Don't volunteer every bit of info to the attendant, or everyone else standing in line, and you should be golden.

I thought that was common knowledge as well... And you had already mentioned it.

What Canada Post puts on it's website is not what's in the legislation surrounding transporting firearms. Maybe it's their wishlist, but it's not law. In fact that Canada Post webpage directs you to the RCMP Firearms Program for specifics.
I've recieved a number of firearms in the mail, including restricted rifles, and never has the dealer shipped it with a lock on it. Most recent one was just last week.
Additionally I recently moved and shipped my firearms to myself via Post. I followed the transportation of firearms regulations, non-restricted unloaded (I also kept the bolts separate just because), restricted locked in a locked case. and got an ATT.
Never tell them what's in the box, it's none of their business... "Sporting goods..."
