Default 7mm-08 w/ 150gr ttsx and Varget?

Looking to try this combination out in my New Rem 700. It has a 1-9.5 twist and I'd like to get the fastest sub-moa groupings for hunting loads.

I'm wanting to try varget due to the insensitivity of Varget to temperature but am open to other suggestions as well. Any data I have found has not related to these bullets but if I had to take a stab in the dark I would think I'd start out around 38 gr and slowing work up from there. It's always tough with the barnes due to the increased pressures they typically create. It's a good thing they're such a great hunting bullet.

Your thoughts?

My thoughts are once you work up a load you'll be happy but my other thoughts are that it may be the most simple or easiest to use a 140 grain tsx/ttsx.

I am using the 150 grain TTSX with BL2C and am getting outstanding groups.

How would it be simpler? Are we talking in terms of available load data?

I am not interested in 140 gr ttsx, I'm interested in data for 150 gr. ttsx as I stated earlier.

Thanks anyways.

Couldn't get the speed I wanted or the accuracy with Varget and a 140 TSX. Worked on the 120 with BLC(2) and 4064 and did much better. With a 22" barrel had no problem pushing the 120's well past 3000 fps and good accuracy, about 1" - and this from a cheap little Stevens. Because it's the TSX a lighter bullet works just fine and still gives very good penetration on any deer. Good "meat" bullet, but I'm seriously reconsidering the heavier versions in my bigger rifles. I prefer to see bigger animals go down fast - like on impact.

I too would load the 140 tsx. Because of its desing the tsx bullets are more effective than cup core bullets of heavier weights but because they are longer bullets it is harder to get the velocities of cup core bullets in the same weight. I shoot the 140 in both my .280 and .280 AI and there is nothing i wont shoot with them, they are simply devastating. As for powder I'd probabably start with imr 4831 or h 4831 and maybe some imr 4350. Those powders always seem to yield the best results for me.

The 150 TTSX should be good to go with BL-C2 or H414, both of these are on Barnes website as the preferred powders. I have followed these recommended powders in four loads and its worked really well regardless of the gun. Seat them off 0.050" +/-0.010" off the lands and you should be set.

I am having excellent reults with RL 19 and 140 TSX as well as Varget and 140 TSX...

Almost a full casing worth of the RL 19...

150's would be nice...

I have moved down to 120's now though..

Thanks for all the info so far everyone. I will give some of these powder choices a try and see what happens along with some Varget testing. I'd love to stick with the 150's but may have to give in and load the 140's.

Keep it coming if you have some new information.
