does anyone have pictures of Bobcat tracks? I think i have a cat checking out my rabbit snares. Thanks....

Here ya go but unless your between lethbridge the Hat and the 49th its very unlikely if your in the boreal / Foothills than Lynx is the one.

Will these cats "double back" and follow their own tracks in the opposite direction from which they came? that is, will they turn around and step into their own tracks and continue to do this?

looks pretty close to me (Bobcat). dang... we have had a lot of snow here. there are lots of rabbitts around. and the tracks are close enough to the house that i can throw a rock and land it near the tracks... i have two small dogs too, a Jack Russell who is 17 lbs and thinks he is 170. and my wife has a Pug (and to a predator she probably looks like a big frigg'en sausage--not my wife but her dog--just to clarify )

Absolutley I know lynx can be very precise not as experianced with Bobs I also know that while Lynx are woosies Bobcats like your Jack Russel are tough and believe them selves to be larger than life.

Note of interest: A large Bobcat was run over by the C-train in south Calgary near Fish Creek a few weeks ago. It is now getting stuffed.

Thats encouraging we are planning a trip down to the milk in hopes of calling in one maybe numbers and range are both increasing maybe we will get lucky!

i spoke with a local resident here and told him of the tracks. he said he has had a few people tell him that they have seen cats this year during the day. he gave me two reasons: 1)increase in population this year. 2) we have had a few easy winters and then this winter brought lots of snow very early. with me snaring and the rabbitts sending out distress calls it makes for an easy meal. i may move the snares from just in back of my house.

i will be calling these folks to see what i am allowed to do if this cat hangs out too close.

i just got back in from checking my snares and did not see new prints. however there is a snare broken off and the cover i had it in is wrecked. this snare was the last one out the path... it has been a mild day today and we lost some snow so it was hard to tell if there were prints round the snare....

what is a cheap but works well trail cam?
