Default Big Fall Pike New PB - Pics

Went out with my dad yesterday and we were hunting the big one. All we were catching was small fish until I had a big pike hit a lure of mine by the boat on the surface. Bigger than 10 pounds and not sure exactly how big it was cause it broke my line. So there went my 10 dollar crank that was getting all the action. So pulled out a huge Rapala and we started to troll and something nailed it and started pulling drag... which was crazy because I had it quite tight with 20 pound spiderwire. Well when she surfaced 50 yards from the boat I saw the wake and said dad its a big fish only big fish make a wake. Netted this guy and a rough measurement was 37.5 inches... could have been a little longer but we did the standing measure which is difficult. Let this big girl go to swim again.

Will post a video when I have time to make it, but still fishing!

Haha, yes I sure do hate it. I lost a bunch of lures this time since i was supplying my dad and brother as well. These big lures aren't cheap, but they sure do catch fish! The fish are biting great now. If you guys aren't hunting get out there and do some fishing before freeze up!

I started using 30 lb powerpro braid this summer. I also use titanium leaders because they don't kink and are much stronger then the cheap steel ones. I have caught over 200 fish on my current line and leader and haven't lost a single lure. I just make sure to shorten my line and retie the knot every once in a while.

Especially when fishing for pike I see no reason not to use 30-40 lb braid. You don't have to worry about breakoffs near as much and can really crank down your drag without having to worry about line strength. Really makes a guy feel better when he is chucking those $10-15+ lures.

Heading out to Wab tomorrow, hoping to catch yet another PB this year.
