Default Another weekend on the river

After my start helping with the species collection, I did my usual sit around and watch the river go by for the rest of the weekend. Pretty slow this time, 2 weekends ago I caught 20 sturgeon, last weekend 10, and this weekend I only managed 4. Other fish helped pass the time, assorted walleye and types of suckers, so it was still a great time as usual. All 4 sturgeon were caught well after dark, so at the moment Im sitting here running on 3 hours of sleep but theres a time to sleep and a time to fish! The fisheries tech brought me more sturgeon tags from the Lethbridge biologist so I got all 4 tagged this time. Did the math, and as it stands it works out that of all the sturgeon Ive handled this year only 7 % were already tagged, and one of those was a double recapture, so there are a lot of virgin sturgeon out in my area, lots more tagging to do.
as usual I took a couple pictures to bore you all.

one of the reasons fishing is slow, there is just too much food! everywhere you look the water is swarming with minows

This guy has perched beside me before, but this is the first time Ive had time to get the camera out before it flew away. after it took off it flew down and tried to perch on the tip of my fishing rod, but that didnt work out to well for it would have made an awesome picture though!

See at least one golden eagle a day down there, and usually a bald eagle as well.

now if only they had teeth like sharks, even more fun!

Great report Wayne. We noticed it slowing down last night as well. CBA managed to get one smaller sturgeon, didn't even get many bait stealers.

I've noticed a huge slowdown too in the river here. Normally there's lots of chubs and moonies but they're pretty rare right now it seems.
Love the pics. Especially the kingfisher and the sturgeon mouth.
