Default 14 footer caught in Alberta

Its true, I was sitting in the dark Saturday night about 2:00 am listening to the wind howl as I waited for my next bite. on the edge of the beam from my headlight I saw something coming up along the shore about 20 feet out.

Wind was so strong it was cruising against the current in a bit of an eddy, I realized what it was and that in less than 100 feet the wind was going to push it into the main current, then it would be off to Saskatchewan for this Lund. I thought about swimming out to it, then remembered the walleye teeth, and said forget that ! decided to grab my heavy baitcaster with the 80 pound braid (laugh now I dare ya) and managed to cast across the boat and hook onto it, brought it into shore and tied it up for the night. nice 14 footer with all the goodies, fully stocked for chasing bait stealing walleyes.

I knew who it belonged to, guy was camped on the beach up around the corner, didnt know how to tie a knot obviously. Kept fishing, and an hour or so later noticed lights shining off the trees around the corner so I wandered over and enjoyed the panicked look on the fellows eyes for a while before putting him out of his misery and letting him know where it was tied up.

My biggest and oddest catch of the year, and the guy was way lucky the wind was blowing upstream and I had stayed up later than usual, or it would have been gonzo down the river.

Even though it's just a Lund you should handle it better. Looks like your dragging it threw the mud. Last I looked snagging was illegal in AB.

Nice catch! You should get a hold of your line company and tell them the story I'm sure they would love to hear about your catch of a lifetime

lucky for owner you were there. i've been amazed this year at how strong braid line is (first year using it). i'll bet 30 lbs. braid would have held.

Goes to show the tensile strength of line. Good that the owner showed up...saved you having to 'clean it'.

I liked the fact you let him sweat a little he might take a little more time on the knot next time.

Do you have a wall long enough in your cave to put up that mount?
