Sounds like they went under for the same reasons dudleys in d.v did.
Realy gotta wonder how you can fail at that business with no competition in bigger wealthy oil towns filled with hunters and fishers not to mention destinations for outdoorsmen while places like bashaw sports can thrive.

I've had nothing but great luck finding everything I need at wolverines and if they don't have it it's on order.

The Crappy Tire in town there has quite the impressive gun counter. I think they recently expanded because I don't remember it being that big.

Yeah, the manager at CT's been doing a good job. Helps that he's an avid shooter.

As for Stoney Creek, well, poor business practices as well as moving to a place with obscene rent don't lend themselves to staying open long.

I went there a few years back. They had a maverick shot gun. Cabellas price $199, thier price $399. When I brought up the $200 difference, I was called "that guy, who will spend $100 on gas to Edmonton to save $20 on a gun". I told him $20 is a long was from $200. Never stepped foot in there again

Was a good place if you didn't want help, need tags or something common, and wanted to pay more. Worked in a pinch for some stuff but what kind of hunting store doesn't issue tags and is closed on the weekends during hunting season.

Dudley's Outdoor Escape in Drayton Valley is still open.
780-621-3339, is the number. Called there this afternoon, Amber's brother Mike answered the phone, I had a very pleasant chat with him.

Kevin at Kodiak Lake in Barrhead is very reasonable. Prices are a little higher then the city but not much considering shipping.

Kodiak lake is a great shop. More reloading supplies than most places.

Dudleys is a great store as well.

Kodiak Lake has always been really good to me. They were the only ma and pa store that didn't jack up prices of there reloading supplies when they were getting hard to find. For example H1000 powder was 38.95 at Kodiak lake, another store to the south in a town that rhymes with Vrayton Dalley the price was 45.99. Anytime I head up that way I stop in for a bs and usually have to lighten my wallet.

Kevin and the boys at Kodiak in Barrhead are hard to beat. At least mention the Cabela's price to give them a chance to match or beat and you may be surprised.
I have bought alot from him the last couple visits. I couldn't find a .20 gauge semi-auto or some of my .338 Noslers anywhere and he had both on hand in multiples. I don't even question his pricing anymore. Bought Vortex spotting scope and accessories first visit just as a feeler, then the .20 gauge and some arrows and a UWay cell cam the next. It's been expensive, lol.
I now always plan a stop in my travels on my way to Mayerthorpe now. He even told me to call his cell if it's after hours to help me out if I'm running late. I'm sure nobody at Cabela's would come open shop for me after hours. Haha

Also, your PAL is kept on file. So if you forget it, you can still get your gear as they can look it up for confirmation!

I have better luck finding what I want at Kodiak Lake than at cabelas....the amount of stock he has in that little store is astounding.

prices are fair and the staff actually knows something.

its a little shop so you may have to wait a bit for service and pay a few bucks more but its worth it IMO...not enough of these smaller shops left.

Ive actually had pretty good experiences the few times that I've stopped into Stony Creek WC?In fact, was in the market for another hang-on tree stand and the price was so good I bought two!
As for the banker hours.....I dunno,I guess as a small self proprietor business,I assumed the boys like to hunt and couldn't afford or didn't want to hire extra staff?
