Default Canned Chicken

The first time I saw it I was in disbelief,

Of course it was in North Dakota! The Walmarts in the south have the LARGEST canned food aisles I have ever seen. Making chili for my crew down there was great, and cheap! I did buy a can of that chicken.....

Nothing like fried SPAM along with a few pineapple rings on top, my hunting crew calls it "Hawaiian Dogfood"!

Try moose balls sliced thin with a stir fry. Excellent.

Default Tulip Canned Bacon

Hi,

Used to eat it all the time canoeing as a kid down the Red Deer river 40 years ago.

Tulip is still around and they're Danish and it was fantastic and NO it was NOT cooked.

You opened the can rolled out the wax paper, tossed that glorious Danish bacon in to the frying pan and heaven! No refrigeration needed and it lasted a damm long time in those cans !!

The stuff called Yoder's is now from the states and pre-cooked and looks hideous. It's from the US as well - you can get supposedly for a case of 12 for $180+ USD .... so yea, no !

The Canada food inspection folks tossed the Tulip stuff out of Canada decades ago and use to be at most Calgary Co-op's - it's long gone, but god, it was good !

The closest thing you'll find now is the LaFleur and the Ready-Crisp stuff in boxes but that's about it ..... even Mountain House's dehydrated breaky's suck - trust me.

Cheers'
Dave

Canned bacon Tulip brand was at one time sold in supermarkets until it became so expensive nobody bought it anymore. It was excellent bacon came out of the can half cooked just fry it up and enjoy.
Another item no longer sold is Smedley beef steak and kidney canned pie came in a can 8" diameter the top was removed, put in a hot oven pastry would rise up from the can with pieces of beef and kidney in gravy under it.... delicious !

Despite canned chicken looking like something the dog arfed up is actually tasty, trick is to heat it up and melt off the mucous looking stuff.

You haven't lived till you've tried razor clams, yes they actually taste worse than they look.

I cook bacon on my smoker in large batches and then vac seal in portion sized bags. Then freeze. Take them hunting or just pull them out on the wkd, a quick warm up and in seconds youre eating good bacon. Im turned off by most canned meats... it just looks unappetizing to me...

Tulip still makes a whole bunch of canned meats, but not their strip bacon that I can see. Yoders still makes it and you can get it on Amazon.ca. Walmart sells a wide selection of canned meats if you are looking.

Popular in the sushi restaurants. Taste is unspectacular from what I've tried.

Bacon is timelessly interesting, especially in a can.

That price is just nuts. Over 20 bucks a can. It has to be available for way better prices than that. If it isn't I can see why it is hard to find.
