Morton should be able to ensure his RAMP program does not go bankrupt now.

Exaclty my thoughts.

Now he can not only push it from behind the scenes, but he can make the money for it appear...

I wish we'd heard the last of Morton and his desire to commercialize hunting in AB, but sadly, I don't for a second think that's the case.

I am glad to see him in finance, he needed to be there from the start. Best MLA of the lot in my opinion

Default Morton did long term good

If you look at what Morton accomplished - there was more long term good accomplished by his changes to legislation for hunting and fishing than any two of his predecessors.

Than any 10 predecessors I'd say. Too bad he left RAMP as a legacy though.

Can someone remind me what his good cornerstone "changes to legislation" were? I am not trying to be negative or anything but I just can't seem to remember any greatness.

Not necessarily all cornerstone but good for hunters none-the-less. From my perspective, at least he took an interest in the portfolio.....something most haven't. Gary Marr comes to mind.

Youth hunting reduced to 12 years old
Hunting Heritage Act
Expansion of Sunday Hunting
Alberta Realm
Increased hunting opportunities.....Zama Bison
On-line licencing
Protecting hunting opportunities from further provinicial park expansion.

Those come immediately to mind. I'm sure there are many more.

Thanks Sheep. The Sunday hunting one was really great for me. Forgot about that one.
More good than bad....no doubt.

There was definitely some of Morton's hand in it as well but Mitzel did bring it to the legislature.

So do three minor things excuse trying to implement paid hunting (RAMP / Open Spaces)? or game farms? What a joke.... IMO

Perhaps the "flurry" of minor goods was smokescreen?

LOL...I'd hardly consider them minor. Alberta hunters have been fighting hard for a lot of years for many of them. Your comment kind of demeans what they've been fighting for.

Do you think landowners being able to sell tags is a bad thing? Just a friendly reminder that this is the ultimate goal.

Morton will go down as the worst SRD minister of all time but who really cares. SRD is so insignificant in the minds or Albertans that it will not matter. Once he royally screws up at being the finance minister he will get his notoriety. He will promise anything and do anything to become the leader of the PC party and hopefully this will be his downfall.

Back when I lived in Edmonton and hunted around Pigion Lake I had 3-4 days a season to shoot a deer. With the Sunday hunting expansion that number doubled, this is probably true for many albertans. I would hardly call that minor, not a fan of RAMP but Morton did make some good changes.

It is minor if you live southeast of me, as there is still no sunday hunting. I have relations that live south of Brooks. How does sunday hunting help the majority of them?

And just a question; Why can a teenager be responsible to drive a vehicle and pay their own insurance/registration, but not hunt without a person 18 or over?

Do you think its all right for an outfitter to get permision from a land owner to hunt on his land then turn around and make $7000.00 a week for hunting on it yet the land owner can't make any money off of his own land from it ????

Don't kid yourself Walleyes. I don't think any of us are naive enough to believe that outfitters that have sole access, get it for free.

No I do not think it is right. So here is my simple solution to this issue. The landowner says no Mr. Outfitter you cannot hunt on my land.

I believe that changing the law which is based on tradition and common sense is not the right solution.
