Beautiful ties, very nice work. How do you finish your chirominids, do you use a uv resin?

I use a resin called rock hard, no UV needed

Smile Beautiful

Great pictures too. It wouldn't hurt some of us old guys that started when all the flies had names, and there were only 2 kinds wet and dry. For example how are these fished? Are they weighted?

Excellent work. What materials?

Chironomids can be fished under an indicator or without an indicator and a long leader (5-30ft) from a floating line. You can also fish them vertically using a full sinking line that you retrieve incredibly slowly. Pupae rise up from the bottom of a lake and emerge at the surface as an adult midge. Fish like them. Lots of sizes and colors to imitate.
Weight: some folks use a tungsten bead, others add a swivel or split shot to the leader
The real thing:

Smile Thank you

How do you cast a 30 foot leader? It is tapered I take it?

I'm sure there is a proper formula...I keep it very simple. 10-15ft of 15-20lb mono, then 10ft of 10 or 12lb mono, then 5-10ft of 10lb fluorocarbon to fly. You could break it up more to get better turn over, but then you have more knots. Doesn't have to be pretty, just need to get the fly to where the fish are.
A light breeze helps with casting long leaders.
I think you can buy quite long tapered leaders if you wish as well. Experiment with what works for you

If you look/ ask enough you can find 12' -15' leaders to 2-3x then step down in line size say 6lb then again to 4lb . Finding long leaders can take some work .
