Default rusty traps

I bought some used traps, and they got a good amount of rust on em. Theyre not bent or too outtawhack so I was wondering what everyone uses to knock some rust off. I was thinking brakeclean. Any advice would be greatly apreciated, thanks.

I would not use break cleaner. The wire brush is not a bad idea and then dip them in trap dye.

just my 2 cents

I use 1 gallon of vinegar and enough hot water to cover traps in a plastic garbage can . Cover a let sit over night and then hit them with a pressure washer as soon as you take them out.

Head to Home Depot... in the spray can section they have cans of rust remover... I have never used them but I have heard they work well to get rid of the rust

I would think that depends on it you are displaying or using them.
Painting option would leave too much smell on them for usage (I think). The vinegar idea workswell. A great (but stinky) one is potato water. Submerge them in water with chopped potatoes in it. Put a lid on it and leave for couple weeks. Water turns mildly acidic and takes off rust but leaves metal with nice antiqued finish. Rinse and clear coat.
BEWARE. Leftover potatoes and water will smell like *****. Dump away from home and dont spill on you. I perfer this way for restoring rusty antiques. Last one was a buggy wrench from late 1800's.

I have never tried this but I have been told Coke acola was use by old trucker to take the rust off the old split rims.

Might be a myth or a good rust remover pretty cheap to try.

If you try it and it works post it back on here with a before and after pic

Vinegar and water works. Or you could try EvapoRust.

It's available at Canadian Tire.

Keep in mind that removing the rust will simply allow more rust to form if you don't treat the metal to prevent further rusting.

Fluid film and a wire brush. Works well, lots of work but it gets the rust out. Or sandblast them and spray them with a shot of tremclad.
