Default Fly line frustration

Decided to spool my 2wt reel today with some brand spanking new SA GPX line, and I have no idea what I did but somewhere between nail knotting the backing and the line together I ended up with one heck of a tangled mess, well after two hours (with a few breaks) I finally untangled it using the vacuum cord holder to keep in tidy. I haven't been this frustrated in a long time........

If one remembers that the knots are only loops and go from there it often makes things a bit easier - nog a lot sometimes , but it does help

Should use an Albright knot from fly line to backing

I used a nail knot because I find it easier to tie than the Albright knot, I'm not to worried about it on a 2wt rod but your defiantly right that is the norm for tying backing to the fly line

Seen a few spools with only backing over the years due to people using nail knots to connect backing and line. I would redo with a Albright.

As for the tangle... always go spool to spool; always.

I learned this winter that when cleaning a fly line you should lock the SO's cats into a bathroom first.

Checked some videos to see how it was done, and a few of them mentioned letting the line soak for anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes.
Perfect!
Carefully un-spool into the sink.
Open a beer.
Wander into the living room to kill a bit of time while waiting for things to soak.
Learn a bunch of new swear words as I watched a cat round the corner while holding a middle section of my fly line in it's mouth.

Fortunately that one only took about 15 - 20 minutes to untangle. It probably would have been shorter if I wasn't laughing as hard, but after I got the "WTF are you doing cat" out of my system I kinda realized that I was mostly just asking for it.
