Default replica movie prop guns?

Good day. Asking this question for a co-worker. His brother in law is a big science fiction movie fan. My co-worker wants to buy or have built for him a replica of the gun used in Bladerunner 2049. His brother in law owns firearms so he is licensed. Not sure if he has his restricted endorsement.

It looks like this. Now upon doing some reading it seems that this prop is not actually built off a real gun as using a revolver for this made it look too fat where the cylinder would normally be. The prop gun did cycle but it was done with an electromagnet. So, is there a custom builder anyone knows of in Alberta who would be able to produce something like this that would not come off looking like a glorified water pistol? Now the first thing I thought was that something like this could be built off a chiappa rhino frame with some dressing up and whatnot, and chances are decent that it would still be able to function as a firearm assuming the barrel was not being shortened beyond a legal length.
