Default home made archer targets

I made a burlap outer case stuffed with plastic bags and old foam cushions.....works great. Put masking tape in a cross for points of aim.

What kind of homemade targets do or have you made?

Has anyone tried the "third hand archery" target bags? Check them out online if you haven't seen them.

Nice to make your own and avoid the extreme high manufactured costs.

I'm all for DIY stuff, and I've made a few home made archery targets, BUT.... I think a bit of money spent on one of the targets they make today will last you a very long time. Get a Block and shoot for the next 2-3yrs, at least that's what I'd do.

I have 2 very good shot blockers.
But cheaper is better.
Homemade works just as good.

Made my own once. Used the same material as the block targets, my first shot at 40 went clean through and kept on going for awhile. Bought a rhinehart after that.. Haha.

I've always used feed bags stuffed with old plastic or clothes. For Brodhead I use spray foam but because I'm in construction, I can usually get a commercial sprayer to fill a large cardboard box. Lasts for years.

I made one out of cardboard a few years back, right after I got my first bow. Built a wood frame to hold the layers of cardboard, which was about 15 inches thick if I recall correctly. Did a good job of stopping my field points, I think I shot a few BH into it as well. Not very weather proof, but did the job of giving me something to shoot at when I didn't have the money to buy one. Nice thing about cardboard is you can draw whatever you want on, or use spray paint. The key is to keep the layers of cardboard packed tight together.

I should also mention, that was an older bow, only shot around 230fps. A faster bow would probably blow right through it unless you made it quicker.

I framed out a box about 8" thick, stapled chicken wire front and back. Stuffed with copious amounts of pallet wrap. Used an old landscape bag to cover and draw a target on. I shoot it in my basement and I have never had an arrow pass through. I also bought an 18-1 for broadheads and portability.

I made something quite similar to the above box but stuffed it with rags. Works great. My Morrell Yellow Jacket bag lasted about 3 months. The spray foam ball works great too.

X3 Now!!!!

I opened the bag to have a look at their advertised "smart material" inside.
What a shocker!!!!!
It's nothing but old cut up rags wrapped in cardboard and a cheap plastic bag.
For $100 I felt completely ripped off and made me feel like a fool.

It's just an over priced homemade bag with a fancy cover.

we have a huge and almost free target out at the lake. 48"x48"

1) cut cardboard 44" long and do a lot you will need it.

2) cut 2 2x6 4" long

3) drill a hole at either end of the 2x6 1.5 " in

4) cut 2 piece of 5/8 ready rod 50" long

5) stack it all and tighten the nuts down.

one big target, almost free, when the center is gone, tighten up the nuts/ replace the cardboard.

labour about 45 mins

Default homemade target

Found an old Futon matress, crammed it into a burlap sack, works excellent, I've got about 20 yards in my yard and my arrows only go 6-10 inches in, and pull out with 2 finger ease. Also have a cardboard box stuffed with plastic from work, works really well also. Total investemet $4 for the burlap bag.

Just made my 2nd target.
20"x20"x12" thick cardboard box for the frame. Plastic bags front, 2" foam centre core and old rags in the back.
I can shoot my 70lb compound at 5yds and the point just barely pokes out the back.
I was very impressed. No more store bought targets for me.
