My mom lives in Beacon Hill. The house was standing when she left but she's pretty sure it's gone now. Sad day.

I can guarantee you that these cuts are being felt today, Aug 16th means nothing.

My wife is reading me some of the stories from Facebook as I don't have it. A woman in labour was stuck in traffic after being evacuated from the hospital...a handicapped man stuck downtown and doesn't know what is happening. And his family can't reach him. Truly a sad day for alberta my thoughts to everyone involved and hope everyone made it out.

Yes, I really hope we aren't reading any stories of anyone injured or left behind. Hoping that the only losses are property...which is still terrible, but that can be rebuilt.

I've heard downtown is in flames as well.

This is tragic. Praying for the brave men and woman on the ground.

Everyone fleeing away while they head into the worst of it.

I was following that on the FB page. The handicapped man was picked up by a stranger linked up via the page. The guy that picked him up is a real life hero. My hearts being wrenched around watching that page. It went from 7k to 18k. Makes me proud to be Albertan. Knowing that there is that many people looking out for on another....

Prayers for the Mac.

My son has a buddy out of Edmonton and they will be there tomorrow, tac hell anyways and will be used to some capacity.

The rest of the country is pulling for you folks up there.

This is true, I would never leave my livelihood in the hands of politicians, if I am seeing the fire literally I pack up what really matters in life and leave with water, rations and a tent etc.

It's easy to know what to do when you're sitting on mommas coach, but quiet another matter when you have a Wajax bag strapped to your back and fire all around you.

I've seen ten acres of smoldering forest explode into a fire ball around me, what you think a fire will do is not always what it does.

What appears totally safe one minute can turn into a towering inferno in a minute.

70 thousand people were right there and thought they were safe. How can someone hundreds of miles away know more then the people on the front lines, simply by reading a few posts on social media?

Then there is the chain of command. Which one of you would want to be the one who ordered 70 thousand people to leave their homes knowing it may not be necessary?

I would trust my life to the men and women fighting that fire, they got everyone out in time, that in itself is a testament to their professionalism.

Well put. There could have been a lot of lives lost already. Property will be lost but lives have been spared.

Troops on exercise in Wainwright are prepping to head that way. They were on standby before the GOA asked for assistance. Two days is pretty quick to put the proper equipment together so they can hit the ground running when they arrive. I suspect that reconnaissance (Reece) parties were sent as soon as the request for assistance request came in and are on the ground there now. They'll get the grunt work done......I have no doubt in my mind.

I am living this right now. Got up at 3:00 pm today (I work nights tonight) to hit the gym before my night shift. By about 3:30 i receive eighty billion texts (phones calls won't work) by my girlfriend, parents, and bro (who lives with me and my girlfreind) and friends that it's evac time. Luckily I live in the last section of town that hasn't been hit yet...I zoom over quickly to the next subdivision to help my retired parents gathered there stuff amd by now the roads are basically gridlocked with vehicles. It literally looked like a scene from fear the walking dead tv show. Vehicles driving EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE. Once my rents were good I had to take a peddle bike back to my place and gather my stuff. My gf made it home from work and we threw all our important stuff in my truck , she drive the truck and I grabbed my Harley. I work at one of the sites north of town and my cross shift coworkers had a room booked at the camp for me and my gf. Bro works at same plant site and was already there working...parents decided to head south out of town. I was able to zoom quickly to work with the Harley on the road shoulder. and relieve the day shift folk as they we're now there well per 16 hours. Born and raised here and I have never seen anything like this. Almost complete mayhem getting out of the residential areas. Places I have drive past from as long as I can remember in town look like a war zone. So far my area is ok and sane with my parents. Forest fires around the area are a common occurrence and were not thought of as serious when not as close. This is humbling in the sickest if ways. Condolences to all my Fort mac family. Stay strong.
