Default Update: OPERATION MAGPIE!

For those who didn't know, my dear wife left me home alone with the kids for the weekend. We ended up setting up a bait pile in the backyard trying to shoot ourselves a magpie with the BB gun......hilarity ensued, but no luck.

Sooooo, I get a call at work this morning from Wifey. I can barely understand what she is saying because she is so excited! The light bulb finally came on after I sortof made out the phrases, "feet straight up in the air!" and, "one shot!".

HOLY MOLEY! Wifey bagged a magpie!

It was the first time she has ever shot at an animal and a clean head at 13 yards to boot! Just poked the barrel out the kitchen window and POP! "He just keeled over!" and then the BEST quote was, "I wasn't going to shoot it but I just couldn't resist showing you how it's done!"

NOW she wants her own gun, and in a cruel twist of fate she likes those cool looking AR ones!

Anyway the season of 'firsts' continues!

Tree...a PROUD Tree!

It simply couldn't have worked out better. I've been encouraging her since Sunday to take a crack at one when she got a chance. ZERO interest until she actually SAW one and the realization of 'one-upping' me dawned on her = dead magpie.

She is still so pumped up, that she called the girls and are now out for a couple pops to celebrate. I believe they are actually going to try and come up with some ideas on how to spice up the bait pile (man, spring clean up is gonna be a nightmare. That or I'll be all set to take my spring bear from the backyard ), and now a couple of her friends want to try too.

Thanks for playing along guys. This could add a few more to our numbers as hunters. Also, NEVER forget the value of SILLY! As Reader's Digest says, "Laughter is the Best Medicine".

Where are you partying on New Year's Eve, TreeGuy?? I'd be willing to walk across the room to buy you a beer if you told me another one of those stories.

Marinate it in red wine. Make a nice rice base stuffing. Pop it in the slow cooker for seven hours on low and when she makes you eat it I bet it tastes like CROW. Congrats to her on a fine trophy. Those pesky guys are hard to get even with a 12 guage.

Caution guys. Most urban municipalities have Bylaws that prohibit the use of pellet guns within their boundaries.

Calgary's Street Bylaw 20M88, in sections 8 to 11 strictly prohibit the use of firearms, BB and pellet guns, bows, slingshots, boleros, etc. If a neighbor turns you in, you could be doing some explaining to the judge.

Nothing wrong with shooting magpies, but the laws in today's society assume that everyone is stupid and incapable of using good judgement and practicing safety etc. Instead the laws restrict everyone, assuming as I said, all people are stupid and the government knows best.

I would not be shooting my pellet gun outdoors in Calgary, no matter how much I wanted to get that magpie, stray cat etc.
