I've rebooted my modem, router, computers and iPhone and no change. Takes about 30secs to refresh this page...called Shaw but they just keep you on hold.

Maybe talk to a neighbour with Shaw to see if it is affecting them also??

Unplug everything and unscrew the coax cable. Touch the end of the coax cable with your finger so it grounds out.
Then power everything back up. This resets the cable signal and has done the job for me before when I've had similar issues. It's what shaw will tell you to try first.

Default Router

I was having issues as well. When I called they had me plug a computer directly into their modem (after leaving the modem unplugged for a few minutes) and the speed just took off.

Turned out to be a bad router. Still slows down here and there but is way better. Router was 6 years old or so, was definitely due.

Thanks guys, I'll try your suggestions to see if it will improve the speed. Maybe my router is packing it in. It's a Lynksys and it's just a bit over a year old.

Hey Rustynail21.

I tried plugging the modem directly into my laptop and it works fine. Tried a bunch of Shaw speed tests and get this:

15-16ms ping time, 18-23.5 mbps download, 51 mbps upload

When I plug the cable into the router and run the speed tests on wireless I get:

800-1200ms ping time, 2.6-11 very erratic mbps downloads, .12 mbps and upload did not completes

Thanks again, looks like I'll be shopping for a router tomorrow.

Had the same problem spent 40 mins on the phone with shaw, 20 mins on hold, they told me it was my equipment I said it was their network. Some how my internet passed the speed test even though it took the website 6 mins to load. Two days later my equipment miraculously fixed itself because everything went back to normal without me doing anything and two months later I signed up for Telus fibre optiks service, it was the first day it was available, and not a problem since.

That is some incredible speeds! Now the fun starts in finding a new router. I went with the Asus RT-AC66. Pretty cool options.

If your router is older than 5 years old, buy a new router.

Glad you figured it out. One suggestion, you may want to try an email toLynksys/Cisco. I had a problem with one that was over a year old. They replaced it with a newer model AC 1750 Dual Band, no charge.

Thanks Dean2, I'll send them a email and see what happens. This one is just about 14 months old. Probably only has a 1 yr warranty but doesn't hurt to try I guess. Weird, I just ran a bunch of speed tests on wireless and get this consistently. Actually seems to be back and running normal.

31ms pings, 11-13 mbps download, .41 mbps upload

Call shaw and ask them to give you the new modem. It has a router built in.

I'm guessing you just needed to reset your modem to pick up a new connection. We used to have to do it all the time. Maybe just keep an eye on it and see if you have issues. The shaw guy had me do the ipconfig /release and /renew stuff to renew my ip. Hadn't done that in years but did improve things. Still didn't get my ping speeds up though.

You know your ping wants to be the lowest possible number?
