Default Don't be stupid like me..

So a few weeks ago I bit down really hard, and cracked half off a back molar.

Oh, didn't hurt I said. I'll get it fixed on the next pay.

Then insurance needed renewed.

Then a partridge in a pear tree, moral of the story, I didn't get it dealt with.

Went to GP with the Lady last weekend. Was having a great time.

Saturday Morning: Hrm, my tooth hurts.

Saturday evening: Wow, that's getting pretty bad, better take some ibuprofin, it's tolerable, but I'll live.

Sunday: Continues to be tolerable, lalala... driving along, hit somewhere between Grimshaw and Manning and it felt literally like someone hit me with a fire axe in the face.

I've broken several bones, had 20+ operations in my youth on my ears, suffered through appendicitis . . and I have never had this sort of pain before. Every other time I've been able to close my eyes, focus and bear through it to get what needs to be done done. This is the sort of mind numbing, breaking pain that all you can do is roll around and suffer agony.

If my lady wasn't there to drive, I would have been calling an ambulance.

By the time we hit high level I was drenched in sweat, incapable of speech, and ended up laying in a fetal position on a gurney in the ER until they gave me a shot of morphine and got me back to some semblance of humanity.

Big round of antibiotics, and wed the dentist ended up yanking that tooth and the one beside it and the stupid abcess continued draining until yesterday.

Today, Saturday, I am -just now- starting to feel like a human being, and even then I'm still weak as hell, probably from the infection.

Don't be stupid like me, and get that sort of thing seen to right away. I'll do it later always turns into something like this.

BTDT way to many times.
Right now I have 3 broke off molars in my lower jaw, they broke one after the other in a half year span,... they's the only molars i got left there.
They never hurted yet.
Store bought teeth in the top 25 yrs ago.

Me hates dentists,.they's got sharp hooks and drills and thrive on causing pain and charge the living daylights outa ye for doing it.
They's also ask stupid questions when you lay there with your mouth open,...
Then i get the urge to his teeth out.

Any sign of an infection, get to a doctor ASAP! The sooner these things are dealt with the easier it is.

Thanks for the reminder and heads up.

Sorry to hear of your situation and cause. One thing from my childhood I took note of was my father rarely - if ever - attention to his teeth. I have made it a priority, and have a great - and reasonably priced - dentist. The mouth can be full of the "nasty's", take care of it and your teeth will be well for your lifetime, IMO.

Last wk-end sat through two hours of new front teeth, headache and waste of time but do I look good now? Could have been out shooting tree rats with my best friend...but I chose pain!

A woman gets into a dentist chair. The dentist comes over, picks up some dental instruments and says to the woman "Open Wide". The woman reaches over and grabs the dentist by the cojones, looks him in the eye and says "We aren't gonna hurt each other are we??"

Thanks for the post. I've had a broken molar for almost a year, doesn't hurt, I absolutely hate going to the dentist, so haven't done anything about it. I'll be heading in soon though now, maybe you saved me the same agony through your story. Thanks!

I feel for you. Been there, and suffered that.

I was in N'djamena Chad a few years ago when my tooth that had recently been drilled for a root canal, and then filled continued to be infected. The filling popped out, and oozed. I went to the local dentist, but turned that down. It was nothing more than a dirt hut with equipment from the turn of the last century. I contemplated pulling it out with a pair of pliers it hurt so bad. I managed to survive the two weeks until I got back to Canada, and then had to have it pulled out as it could not been saved.

I once was in the bush guiding when i had a tooth that I once had a root canal done on got absesed, the dentist broke off one of his files in my root.

Long storey short, I was waiting at the doors a Saturday morning on December 1st, looking like I was hiding a tennis ball in my mouth. They said they would have to give me antibiotics until the swelling came down because the anaesthetic wouldn't work with that much swelling. I said pull it NOW! Well, 3 hours later they had managed to break the molar off flush with my gums but couldn't get any of the roots pulled and said I would have to go see another dentist on Monday to pull it!!!!!
When I walked into the dentist on Monday, Dr Crowfoot, he asked if I wanted gas. I said YES. He have me a shot of gas, let me go mingle with the crowd in the waiting room while it kicked in. Called me in, sat me down, and within less than a minute had it pulled out?

He asked if the other dentist prescribed pain killers, I said "ya, T3's" he said "Well they should have given you Flintstone Vitamins!" Gave me a prescription for percaset(spelling?). Took 2 of those and felt waaaaay to good to ever take one again.

Good luck with that.

Haha, yeah, the ER doctor gave me percocet to go with the morphine.

You really don't care about much on that stuff.

Thanks for your sympathies, guys.

For how little trouble it was to get it out -- I felt very little, and it had to be sectioned, still took less than 10 minutes -- I was amazed. Yeah, I was probably lucky, but still, don't wait on it, just go get it done. My dentist told me that if it's broken off, chances are it IS abcessed just it's able to drain on it's own so it doesn't hurt.. but you're still subjecting your body to the infection.

It was easy peasy though, he cut the tooth in three sections, screwed a little screwdriver thing down each root and pulled them out. Compared to what I went through on Sunday, it was absolutely nothing.

Two teeth to be pulled on Tuesday, fillings fell out and waited too long, now rotten and falling apart. Very sad as I loved my teeth and those two were the only crappy ones

This all hits home for me. Last 25 yrs had full benefits through work, and never been to the dentist. Right now all my wisdom teeth have broken off at the gum line, each one was very painful ( i would rinse my mouth with cold water every 5 minutes to numb pain) eventually had to get some percocet and oxycotin from my brother who was recovering from knee surgery. Most of my teeth are cracked from playing hockey back in the day, and are at risk of breaking off. Really regret not taking care of myself and will probably end up with fake upper & lower teeth within next 5-10 years. I make sure my 2 daughters go on a regular basis. Right now im embarrased to go to the Dentist, so will probably just ' play it out, and hope for the best'.

Sorry to hear of your pain and glad you are on the mend.
I go to a dentist in Mexico just across the border from Yuma. Very reasonable prices and the work done is standing up well. Very sanitary office. Savings paid for our trip down there. No coverage here so I avoid dentists here. I find our dentist's bills very PAINFUL up here.

Oral infections are no laughing matter. Comas and death are not uncommon results.

I hope you have a complete recovery.

Get well man. Tooth aches are the worst pain known to man. I was out in the bush once when I had a sore tooth so painful couldn't take it so ripped it out with pliers. Not for everyone. Pain is gone now
