Default Looking for my retirement lake lot, help

As the title says I'm looking to buy a lakefront lot for my retirement home. I live in Edmonton area and I'm looking for a place I can reach in 3 hrs or less door to door. Cleanliness and good swimming are important but fishing is priority. Not only health of the fishery but I also want reasonable keep limits aswell. We checked out Lesser Slave but hoping for ideas in the other direction, any really. Closer than Turtle lake aswell.

Please let me know if you have a gem, I'd like to hear.
Thanks

Better luck finding a unicorn.

What you’re looking for is east of the border and closer to 4hrs away.

And good luck if it's Meadow Lake Park area. Could "lease" a spot North of La Ronge but you'd be commuting via snowmobile or boat most of the year.

Until Alberta comes up with a better management strategy, I think Slave might be your only option in Alberta.

There was an auction for a half dozen lots at Lauman's Landing at Lac Des Isle a few weeks ago. One may have been lake front. Still a few places for sale there but not sure if any are lake front. If viewing pictures of the lots online, be aware a tornado went through and took out a lot of the trees in the area. You would be 4 to 4.5 hours from Edmonton.

174 Alberta lake lots and properties posted here. Change the filters to just search lots or land. Consider river lots too. Less to deal with than lake front still with good fishing and even hunting.

If i had to pick a lake in Alberta it would be Cold Lake . 289 km
The city has everything you need, and the lake is very clean with good fishing.

Saskatchewan all the way. If you like nice clean water good fishing and decent neighbors it's the best bang for your buck by far. These central alberta lakes are going downhill fast and the prices are insane fir a lake you can't swim in or keep a fish to eat. Slave and cold lake are the only two and with the new priveldges handed to half the province for netting rights etc they are gonna see changes next year I bet. Lake diefenbaker and the elbow area is nice with reasonable prices for a property that will hold its value, nice golf course, marina etc. Good people too. Outlook is close too but a bit more money. You get a nice house and property for the same price as a bare chunk.of land by a stinky old slough in alberta and the services and septic systems alone will cost you a pile then yer neighbors turn out to be the worst example of mankind you can imagine and that's where you are stuck.

Lake summerside.
Biggest trout I ever caught was out of there. I cast my line out of the rough opening of the kitchen window.
I did the plumbing on several houses right on the lake. (Later found out it's a private lake, and I wasn't allowed to fish there. I think the statute of limitations will protect this confession )
Nowhere closer to the city than in the city.

I know you said closer than Turtle but I think you should reconsider.
I am at Turtle, and me and my family love it.
Decent fishing, great lake, clean with lots of room.
Quadding, sledding, ice fishing all really good in the area.
In 5 years we have never had a single thing go missing from our lot.

For the guys recommending Laumans on Lac Des Isles I would rethink that idea. Looks like a pasture now after the tornado.

Depends on what OP's retirement plan is? Right Now, or 5-10 years. if that's the case, then for sure I'd look at Lac Des isles.

Not to be morbid but the recent disaster may cause a short term drop in price there.

Still a little far for me. If I need to go 3.5 hrs, it would be turtle lake.

Maybe Hilliard's Bay Estates on the NW shore of Slave Lake might be a possibility.

Battle lake, Moose Lake, and Pinehurst would be top of my list personally. Sask is probably a pretty good choice, I'm just not too familiar. Been to some nice lakes there as well.

Does anyone know the fishing situation in Brighrsand Lake, Sk near St. Wahlburg? I heard it was netted dry a few years ago but slowly starting to rebound.
Thanks in advance.

Just bite the bullet and head to Manitoba or Ontario. Prices are so much cheaper. Plan on spending your summers out there and call it a day. Alberta is a lost cause just because of our lack of lakes.

As mentioned up top, I'm looking within 3 hrs of Edmonton. So Ontario and Manitoba are out. I headed out to check out Turtle and Brightsand this weekend.

Lake front lot at Lac Des Isles, one I know of for sale I think they are asking 410-425K for a bare lot. If you want info. on a cabin not lake front pm me and I'll let you know of a great deal. Listed ours this spring. 1 acre lot as well, cabin was RTM, built in 2012.
