270W in a Savage 111
Was a 25-06 fan for years, many deer went down in front of that gun. But the barrel’s shot out now and I used the Savage this year. 130 SST’s going 3050 FPS pushed by H4831. Am getting the .06 rebarrelled to a 280AI. Here’s what the stock is going to look like. Tikka M695

Bit of a progression
Lee Enfield surplus 303 as a kid
Husky 1600 3006 for 25 yrs
Rem 700 for 5 minutes (hated that pos)
Kimber Classic 3006 for the last few years
Tikka T3x lite veil 3006 just bought for the next few years

Remington Custom in 358 Norma Magnum.
Fluted Benchmark barrel
Custom wood stock
Great trigger
Ziess glass.
Shooting 200gr accubonds or 250gr Hornady, depending on what I am hunting.
Shot everything from wolves to moose with this one, only thing it doesn't do is go to the hills sheep hunting. I would cry if a horse rolled on it, so my Kimber Androidak in 308 gets the nod for that

x2; agree with Leo, I also hunted my first few seasons with a .303 my Dad purchased from a friend for $80! Stick around Keg, appreciate your wisdom and experiences shared in threads!
My rig for the last few years is a Browning A-Bolt Long Range Hunter 7mm Rem Mag with a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50 pushing 160 Accubonds. Has always got the job done when I needed it.

No shiny metal or glowing stocks in my gun cabinet. And never have owned a custom rifle in any sense of the word.
I guess it is true, I really don't belong in this forum.

That is funny because both those rifles you should be proud to own! They don’t make them like they used to. Send me a. Pm if you want my opinion on tikka, savage, and the Remington sps detachable mags that don’t feed! Most of these mentioned rifles are accurate but they do have shortcuts and/or minor problems that may or may not bother you.

My two favorites used this fall,
Win 70 Stainless custom by Gary Flach , 338/06 for Elk, 185gr TSX over Varget.
Win 70 Stainless custom also by Gary Flach, 375 H&H for Moose (and a large bodied Whitetail buck). 270gr TSX over Varget.
Have a hard time choosing one over the other, they perform extremely well.

I couldn't agree more. The .338-06 is pretty hard to beat if shots are kept to under 400 yds. I use a 210 N P on everything from Deer to Moose. Haven't had
to take a barrel stretching shot so far. Last years Elk was at 368 yds. Done.

Thanks. I should of taken a pic of the vitals, there wasn't anything left of them . I remember a thread going around about Barnes Bullets a few months ago, it would have been a good one to post. First time using Barnes bullets, I will be using them next season again.

I used a Savage built No.4 mkI* Lee Enfield, with a new Criterion barrel, chambered in .303 British shooting hand loaded 174 grain Hornady Interlock over 40 grains of Reloader 15 for my white tail.
For my Suffield elk, I borrowed my uncle’s Kimber Classic chambered in 280 AI shooting Hornady’s Precision Hunter 162 grain ELD-X.

Ruger Hawkeye in 338 RCM. A handy rifle with short action and 20” barrel .
Throwing 225 grain accubonds with authority , much like a 338-06.

Great thread
Love the posts, always neat to see what others are using, both the common and the custom!
For my part I’m using the same rifle I have used for 20 yrs. Ruger M77 MK II in .270 with a custom trigger (not sure what type, came with the rifle when I bought it) and a VX II 3x9x40. Only managed one wt doe with it this year though. I like the accuracy of the 140 grain accubonds but my go to round for elk and moose are 150 grain partitions.

Last year I used a Marlin 336 30/30 for my whitetail gun. I found it really comfortable for a tree stand gun in the bush. It has earned enough respect that I will put some $ into different optics and in time a synthetic stock. Before I get attacked for planing to put synthetic on a level it’s because I am too rough on things. One season and I already put a deep scratch in the wood stock
I can’t be trusted with nice things lol

I would stick with the 140s; nothing against Partitions, but I do not think you are gaining anything by switching.

Scratches, dings and rub-marks are all part of hunting. A lever gun wearing synthetic is as horrific as spraying that stock with bedliner!
If you really NEED to save the original wood for some reason, order a laminate set. Life is way too short to pack an ugly rifle around...
A little 2-7 or 1.5-5 Leupold would look nice.

Spraying the stock with bed liner that might do the trick lol
I kid but an ugly synthetic stock might be the way to go for me. I have wrecked every wood stock I have owned. I might be destined to shoot ugly guns
That is a 2-7 on it right now but I am learning towards a red dot since it’s a max 50yards gun for where I will hunt with it
