Unhappy Bob Hooton: How's The Payback?

"I admit to losing track of what proportion of the Provincial government budget allocated to steelhead management via the Ministry responsible (in today’s world it’s the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Developmen aka FLNRORD) has been in recent years but there can be no doubt it has declined very significantly. That pattern has been clearly evident since the mid- to late 1990s. Fast forward to 2021 and one might reasonably ask just what is it steelhead anglers get for the price of a license, a steelhead stamp and, where appropriate, a classified waters endorsement?"

In the comments to the letter someone suggested FN will most likely eventually assume management of the resource. When FN finally run it into the ground they will then sue the gov't and DFO for loss of the resource.

The general public doesn't care as long as they can still buy farmed Atlantic salmon.

Sport fishermen need to start a massive class action lawsuit against DFO, Native Bands and the federal gov't.

I was questioning myself last year. As we cannot keep, eat steelhead. I decided no need to purchase stamp. Won’t be fishing BC much longer. Shame what is happening. Always thought about moving back to the island. However wild rose 🌹 province looking better everyday.
