Default Optics for Mini 14

I have just acquired a mini 14, it is purely for coyotes and will spend most of its time on a quad or in a tractor. Almost every coyote I have shot has been under 75 yards. So what would you recommend for glass or should I stick with open sights.

Thanks guys.

Vx1 3x9 would be my vote no need to get fancy for under 100 yards.

The open sights are pretty good on them, if you can see them well, and at the ranges you talk about. I always liked a 2-7 on mine, I ran either a leupold, or a Redfield on the last one. They stood up fine. If it's going to be a tractor gun, I'd skip the scope.

3x9 is fine for that distance.
Look at a Monarch. The glass on those scopes are just as good as any Leupold and for almost half the price.

I use a 1.5x6 scope on the mini's. Unfortunately if you want accuracy with a mini you have to get the target model. I found I could get better groups with the open sights on the non-target models. On a tractor you will ding the scope getting in and out of the cab door and also if it falls when driving over rough fields. For short ranges a 22 or 22 magnum are good enough for a tractor gun.

Considering the distance and intended use, a red dot can do the trick perfectly, in a minimal, robust package.

Redfield Revolution 3-9 x 40mm w/Accurange reticle...

Under $300 & made in USA, a reticle you can set for 100 yds but have hash-marks to get more elevation/distance at a glance.

Actually you get a tractor, then a cultivator that is too big for the tractor so you can convince the wifey you now need a bigger tractor and so on. When you finally end up with the biggest tractor money can buy you quit farming and have an auction. Just look at the current spring auction brochures.

Same thing every year, nothing new....

I had to buy the mini 14 as she's banned me from using her sako on the quad and tractor.

First rifle I ever bought was a Mini-14. I never put any optics on it but if I still had it, I would probably put a fixed 4x or 6x scope on it. Wish I still had that rifle....

I put a Redfield 4x12 on mine, it has a circle type reticle which I like for quick acquisition when things are moving in every direction.
