Great Blog! It looks like you put a lot of work into it.

I get the back tension thing, but after 25 years of not using one I doubt I could get used to punching myself in the mouth with one of those things LOL. I do plan on picking one up this summer though and see if I can learn a new trick or two.

I remember a fairly notable shooter hooking up one at SPAL years ago. Drew it back and forgot he wasn't shooting fingers and let go. The Carter release went flying down range with the arrow.

No names mentioned as he likely visits here once and a while

Back Tension releases have been around for years and have always been toted as the way to help with target panic, I think I first heard Dee Wilde saying that almost 15 years ago. I use a back tension for 3D and it certainly helps train you to stay on target BUT.. don't be fooled, anyone can punch most back tension release too!!

Default True back tension

LA Bowhunter- I'm talking about true back tension releases. One that only works on a hinge where the entire release needs to pivot. A lot of 'back tension' releases have triggers such as most Carter releases. The style that you can't punch is one like this: http://www.lancasterarchery.com/t-r-...s-release.html

Its still possible to dump a hinge release with your hand if used incorrectly.

Here are a few good videos on shot execution that might be of interest. These are some of the top 3D and spot shooters.

There is no better training aid than a BT release. I've been shooting one for 15 years. I had target panic bad...I had to change something. I went from missing 7 different bull elk 1 morning to shooting my buddies house. It was bad. I could not hold the pin on the target. I had to pass shoot or hold the pin under the bullseye.

Like I said no better traing aid to get rid of panic. It takes a bit of commitment but so worth it in the end.

I use a true back tension stanislowski, Bernie's Knuckle under and a Sweet spot and I can punch them all if I want to. Its not that hard. Anyway, they are great training tools and I use my Sweet Spot in Competition.

I agree. A guy can still command shoot a BT release. Lots of guys shoot it and jam it.
