Default Recurve bow help please?

I'm interested in finding a recurve bow for deer hunting. I mainly hunt white tail and mule deer here and usually use a .30-.30 but would like to start bow hunting too.
I have shot bows for fun (not hunting) and am not sure what kind to get for serious hunting.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Best advice I can give you is to get to an archery shop and try a bunch out.
I shoot both recurves and long bows, and like both, but there are little differences between the two, and most archers use either one or the other.
To me, it's the handle that makes the difference more than the limbs, I prefer a straight grip, many like a pistol, style grip.

get out there , pick one up in a poundage you can handle and practise with it!

Cat thank you so much for the help! I'm not sure what type to get, I do like long bows but thought that a recurve might be best for hunting. (you can tell I am new to this! ).
The deer I bring in average about 165lbs field dressed and I was thinking that maybe a 40lb recurve might have enough "power".
I have a lot to learn.

There are no bow shops close to me but next time I get to the city I will look for one.
Thank you again for your help!

Default Minimum poundage

Just a caution, I believe the legal minimum for big game hunting is
45# draw weight. Check into it to make sure and don't buy a bow that won't allow you to hunt legally.

Good luck and enjoy

Big Jimmy thank you, I didn't know that! Maybe I should check into a cross bow instead.

A 40pound bow will shoot through a deer no sweat- the first one I killed way back when , I think I drew about 32 pounds!!
BTW, if you register with tradgang.com , that site will be a tremendous help to you!
Lots of professional bowyers and instructors, and a very experienced bunch of archers for sure!
