Default Classic fly reel for an old bamboo rod

Hey guys I wanna get an idea from you as to a decent classic looking fly reel. I really don't want to spend a whole lot on it as it mostly will be a display peice on my Grandpa's J.S. Sharpes 6w Scottie bamboo fly rod. I want to take it out once a year catch one fish and put it back on the shelf. What do think?

Ryc...

There has been more Pflueger Medalist reels grace bamboo fly rods that any other reel sold ever. They can be bought for under $50.00
See: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=221212058006

With the increase in disposable income, the well heeled bought reels that were very expensive. Bogdams and the like. For the semi- well heeled, there are Peerless or Sarrciaone.

Plastic rods get graced with Ross, Lamson, islander etc.

Regards,

Don

Check out the classic styled reels by ZYZ on Ebay. Comes in 2 sizes and have the appropriate weight to balance cane rods. Very nice quality for $100-$200. Fixed drag. Comes in custom colors too. Big question is how long is your Sharpes? The 3" may be heavy enough to balance up to an 8‘ cane rod.

If I wanted something for display without the price of a Bogden, I'd buy a Hardy. Make sure you hook into a nice fish with it, nothing sounds nicer than a Hardy screaming.
