Default Notes from the Pheasant patch

Just to add to a dead thread....

spent four big days over the last two weeks hunting private honey holes.... and the pheasants are few-far between.

There's a tonne of huns out there... which confuses me a bit.

There seems to be plenty of pothole ducks.

So all in all, I'm going to keep searching for 1-2 more roosters over the next while, but I probably would shut er down if I didn't have a first year dog to work this season. Her search patterns are really working out well.

I gotta be a better wing shooter.

I've hunted Magrath-Cardston-Milk river-Raymond areas. Not so much on the common areas, just private spots I'v aquired over the years.

Comments from the locals are the same as everyone else has been hearing.

Can someone tell me why the huns seem pefectly fine popultion wise?

thanks

Default Huns

Hmm.. interesting.. the area I am in seems to be ok with the pheasants.. never see that many normally but seeing about the same as always. Huns on the otherhand were destroyed last summer by a 4am hail storm and the cold spring didn't seem to help the hatch. You could easily fill your limit in an afternoon a couple of years ago but I put 400kms on the truck this last weekend and only saw 5 groups.

The only pheasants I'm finding near Raymond are in the release areas. I'm not seeing as many partridge as in past years either.
